Businessman and social commentator, Isaac Fayose has called out Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the staggering ₦39 billion reportedly spent on renovating the Abuja International Conference Centre (ICC)—a facility originally built for ₦240 million in 1991 under
General Ibrahim Babangida.

Fayose, known for his outspoken stance on governance, described the move as “ego construction,” questioning the justification for spending such an amount of money on a renovation amid a biting economic crisis in Nigeria.

A full, solid national monument constructed from the ground up.

Fast-forward to 2025 under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu:
₦39 billion was spent, not to build a new one, but to renovate the existing ICC.

Now think about that:
From ₦240 million to ₦39 billion a staggering leap for a mere facelift.

But here’s what really stings:
IBB, the man who built the ICC from scratch, never named it after himself.
Tinubu, who merely renovated it, renamed it the Bola Ahmed Tinubu ICC.

This says a lot.
This isn’t about legacy through nation-building.
It’s about personal branding, self-glorification, and rewriting history in paint and concrete.

While Nigerians battle rising inflation, insecurity, poor healthcare, and failing education, this administration is more focused on immortalizing a name than solving real problems.

It’s not just renovation.
It’s ego construction and we all know who’s footing the bill.

Alot of folks here who knows nothing about construction go come here come rank ignorantly! An edifice built in 1991, i.e 34 years ago and has never been renovated is as good as building a new one!
My family house built over 50yrs ago for God knows how much, the roof renovations alone cost more than the cost of the entire building from purchase to construction and furnishings!
