Good... but what does it really indicate, comparatively? In the 1st quarter of 2014, Nigeria had a trade surplus of N2.4trn or about $11m... https://www.tralac.org/news/article/6103-nigeria-s-shrinking-imports-data-show-policy-gaining-traction.html So, this N5.2trn is equivalent to $3.2m... It is left for Nigerians to decide if this is a good development or not. Are we moving forward or backward... |

helinues:Keep deceiving yourself, the reason Nigeria is experiencing trade surplus is because of less imports and not because of more productivity in the economy. The reason for the less import is because of the exchange rate because Nigerians are now sourcing local alternatives in place of exports e.g rice, even human hair are being imported less as women now embrace local braids. This is actually not a bad thing though but to delude yourself that there's more industry and production going on in the economy is just blatant rubbish . Otherwise can you mention how many car factories ,steel companies or production sites have been set up that's making Nigeria to export like you said. |

What parameters are they using to analyze the terms of trade or perhaps balance of trade...... Nigeria is operating under trade surplus yet the average condition of the citizens and price per unit of income and disposable income is still very high.....on what basis do u infer that a nation is operating under favourable trade balances when the nations can not meet up with basic domestic demand and viable cost.....Also on wat basis do u conclude that we r operating a trade surplus when we still borrowing funds to finance deficit budget and structure ......the deceits need to end cuz ..there exist no correlation with trade surplus with economic non viability, constant borrowing, high food prices, destruction of disposable income and norminal income values ....... |

Some1 ask why are they still borrowing? USA, as big as it is, is regularly borrowing. The question should be, is the money used for what it is meant for? |

Raph82:So what's the essence of borrowing when the surplus money are available to do what they need them to do? Why will Nigeria be sitting on trillions of naira but still go ahead to borrow? |

Agbegbaorogboye:The low value of our currency is also part of what's encouraging export. Who will import goods from a country that their goods is expensive? That's how China took over most of the global market because of their dirt cheap goods because of the low value of their currency, today they are super power. south Korea have stronger economy than Nigeria over a trillion dollar but their currency value is the same as that of Nigeria. Low currency value doesn't affect your purchasing power if your country economy is very strong like that of China and South Korea. |
