Democracy is not in decline.

Let us have hope.

I listened to Peter Obi's June 12th speech. He started by asking for a minute silence for the late M.K.O. Abiola. He then went on to start a song of lamentations about multidimensional poverty, about World Bank statistics, about educational infrastructural decay. He also lamented hunger and unemployment among the youth. He then said Nigeria was a crime scene. He rounded up by saying, "A New Nigeria is Possible".

I have my reservations about his speech.

1. Why was it necessary for him to speak?

2. Why does he use every opportunity to demarket the entire country? If you are aspiring to be the CEO of a company like Unilever, Shell, Mercedes, Amazon, etc, go and meet the board and demarket the company in their presence. Call their company a crime scene, and if they give you that job, then the board does not know what they are doing.

3. After his lamentations, he said the president should stop running the country by remote control and stated how long the president has been away from the country. What exactly is Obi's day job? It offends me that a mature man would be counting the trips of someone who is gainfully employed. Politics is not a job. If you lose elections, you return to your regular job until the next elections. You do not constitute a national disturbance.

4. There was a video where he said he had six funerals to attend in one day and say he didn't eat before 1 pm. He also said he didn't eat at funerals. Attending one funeral is already exhausting for me. I once lived somewhere where there was a cemetery opposite my house. Everyday, there was one funeral or the other. I sometimes opened my window to see. The sight was really draining even if I didn't know who was being buried. But someone had six funerals to attend! Doesn't he get exhausted from such outings?

5. After attending funerals, it is not unexpected that one cannot think straight again.

I suggest he takes his personal branding seriously. The last interview with Rufai Oseni did not cover him in glory. His speech yesterday was a PR disaster. He needs to take a break, reinvent himself and come back with a bang. If he continues like this, his flaws would become more obvious and people may see through him as they are already doing.
You said you listened to his speech
Yet you couldn't attack any of the points he raised
Instead you resorted to personal attacks and regaling us with stories of how you lived in a cemetery. Who asked you? It is irrelevant!
You're a poor excuse for an agbadorian. You should be sacked!!

It seems to me that you project the pain and sadness in your life on others.

I am not the cause of your problems. If you work for politicians for pay, sorry, I have not reduced myself to that level.

I will now block you and set a reminder so that when they block expires, I'd block you again.

Stop following me around with your toxicity.

If democracy were truly in decline — as claimed by the serial party defector and self-proclaimed Obidient messiah — he would be in jail for making such deluded statements. Let him try saying the same thing in Russia or North Korea, and he’d quickly understand what the absence of democracy really feels like.

In contrast, President Tinubu remains ahead and proves himself a true democrat — one who tolerates criticism, respects opposition, and allows freedom of expression to thrive. That, in itself, is the clearest evidence that democracy is alive and well in Nigeria.

The economist, the business goons are commending president Tinubu about his reforms and policies that have been shaping things.

Abia state governor, Alex Otti, Anambra state governor Charles Soludo, Top politician in Pdp, Bukola Saraki all commended president Tinubu for the 2 years as president.

But see Peter Obi who lack in depth knowledge about economy ( Any economy interview is a disgrace) is saying something else.

Go and verify came back to either be fake or incorrect information.

Nigerians are waiting for you in 2027, Muslim Muslim ticket, health, Islamitizing Nigeria stories that was used in 2023 have all been bursted to be as usual fabricated
Tackle the message not The messenger. The statistics mentioned are they true or false. If true, can things get better with the recommendations, yes. Simple and short. Stop fooling around. Not everyone cares about PO.

If the Yorubas could had Awolowo who was million miles better than this guy in everything but only got the tittle of the "best president Nigeria never had"... I think Obi should start celebrating the title in advance too. Nothing for him kwa...!

The killing of the youths was done by the then federal government. The defunct SARS was under the FG not state government.

If you don't know what to say, just close your mouth and look on.

Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general election has opined that democracy is in decline. He also argued that Nigeria lacks democratic qualities.

In a post made in his verified X(formerly Twitter) handle, he also accused the government of mismanagement, while urging Nigerians not to lose hope.

Peter Obi
Obi giving it back to back.Thr is nothing good about this SW president government. The government has finished nigeria. I will prefer to cut off my hand than ever use it to consider voting for SW president.
They will soon create numerous threads of lies and propaganda from this fire. This is the best speech for June 12 they call democracy day.You are thr biggest threat for 2027.You are doing well by being member of the coalition for 2027.The rigging they are betting on via apc governors will be resisted by nigerias.
And your safety should be a priority to them. The igbo nation will not accept if anything happens to you from now till 2027.If they try it .It becomes declaration of war to igbo nation and we have never been coward to such call.
The coalition of SE,SS and north is coming for 2027.SW president remains as no option because he has shared hunger, poverty, corruption and insecurity in the last 2 yrs never seen in our history .It is only the living that can use and enjoy the lies called infrastructure they are building eg costal Road of fraud, 39 billion to renovate an existing structure.

This guy is indeed experiencing a mental crisis of his own. Imagine relentlessly whining since 2023, trying everything in his power to either instigate an insurrection or run a parallel government. Every time there's a national event, he will read speech. Every time the president addressed the country, he will read his own. He has never said anything positive about the government. He's always whining and gripping about something, while simultaneously projecting himself as a panacea for the problem. Atiku who placed second has since moved on.

That coalition only exists in your mind. And the earlier you accepted the fact that Obi will never be the president of Nigeria, the best for you. And speaking about war is an indication that you have never learned from the history of your past as an ethnic group in Nigeria. The SE can't ever be trusted with power. The North will, as usual, use you and then dump you.
Re: Democracy In Decline: Reflecting On Two Years Of Present Government – Obi by tayo2edio12: 10:47am On Jun 13, 2025
I wholeheartedly agree with Peter Obi’s reflections on the current state of Nigeria’s democracy. What we are witnessing today is indeed a troubling departure from the foundational principles of democracy — government of the people, by the people, and for the people.
The erosion of democratic norms, lack of transparency, and the sidelining of due process have created a system where the voice of the average Nigerian is muted, and governance is increasingly characterized by impunity and mismanagement. This decline is not just political but touches every facet of our society — from economic instability and rising poverty to the collapse of critical services like education, healthcare, and security.
The statistics cited are alarming: shrinking GDP, skyrocketing poverty, deteriorating education and health infrastructure, mass unemployment, and a growing hunger crisis all signal systemic failure. What is even more concerning is the erosion of trust in institutions, especially the electoral body, which ought to be the bedrock of a credible democracy but now appears compromised.
For democracy to thrive, accountability must be non-negotiable. Leaders must prioritize tangible progress over propaganda, embrace transparency, and respect the rule of law. The government must urgently tackle insecurity, revitalize our economy through sustainable policies, and rebuild the trust of Nigerians.
Moreover, genuine democracy demands inclusive governance — where citizens’ voices are heard, rights are protected, and participation is free and fair. The current trajectory threatens to undermine these core democratic values.
I join in the call for a renewed commitment to democracy in Nigeria — one anchored in integrity, respect for institutions, and a true focus on improving the lives of the Nigerian people. It is not too late for change. With collective resolve and responsible leadership, a New Nigeria that lives up to democratic ideals is still possible.

Bros you are very pathetic. Inspite of all the verifiable damning statics Obi listed, which affects the entire populace including yourself, you just aim to counter his claims with an unrelated and unreasonable account of another event.
You are literate enough to know that the governor cannot order the police to carry out extrajudicial killing because it is unlawful. Even if it is, the police doesn’t take orders from Governors.
Stop defending evil because it does not take tribe, religion or region into account when during boomerangs.

Top employees like CEO or even Investors always seek to know the true state of any company before bringing in their investment. Would the board of directors accuse the Corporate Affairs department of demarketing the company to prospective investors if they communicate clearly and truly the State of things to them?

Obi is a formidable opponent, yet he has managed to create division within the country, fostering deep-seated animosity among his supporters. While I admire certain aspects of his character, I believe he lacks the capacity to unite Nigeria. His focus seems to be on making political statements to maintain his relevance rather than promoting national unity, despite his aspirations for leadership. I genuinely wish him the best in his endeavors.
It's definitely ur tinibu that's appointing only his kinsmen into all sensitive federal govt institutions that's showing capacity in uniting nigerians? undecided
