Colonialism taught us to live like more compassionate beings

But if you think about the rate of Abortions now
Hmmmmmm
Abortions before colonialism might have been way more brutal.

Born in 1800 should be over 200 years ...
Why lying or exaggerating.

Not African, it was Igbos. Yoruba never sacrificed twins. They are elevated to deity status.
It was equally rampant among the Ilaje and present day Akwa/Cross region. In fact, Mary Slessor started her campaign in Calabar.

Yes, even the British had their Dark ages when they lynched by burning mostly women on suspicion of witchcraft.

You are very correct. I am an avid reader and to be honest, those guys are equally as bad as we are. Infact even as humans, we like basically in a jungle like animals live because life has always been cruel.

The times of people like Machiavelli, Alexander the Great, Marcus Aurelius, Hitler, conquest was still very much around like the Roman Empire, killing was just normal, just in a different way.

Even the foreign religions we so much cherished here today, if you read their real history, blood was shed and was forced on our ancestors. Books like the 48 laws of power, the Art of war etc have these stories.

Rest in peace mama . Imagine how many humanitarian works her Bishop son must have carried out. Thank you Mary slessor .
And to my brothers who say no such thing in the southwest, I beg to disagree . Killing of twins borne out of unfounded superstition and wicked manipulations of spiritual tools of divination by mouthpiece of the gods is widespread in many subsaharan society pre-colonisation and Yoruba land is not exempted . As a matter of fact , a king in a part of Yoruba land that is now today a major economic hub in Africa , once had one of his own infants smuggled out of the Palace and kept the other one as crown Prince just to forestall dire consequences that would befall the twins . Sadly , the crown Prince died young while the hidden twin brother lived to his old age as a commoner , but their father's lineage lost the highly revered crown for life because the king died without another male heir. Talk about windmill of the gods .
Please let us endeavour to tell our history without trying to contort fact , because no society or set of people or great past civilization has a perfect history . Let us learn to tell it as it is with the good and bad that both praise us and shame us because at the end of the day it is these pasts that shapes us.

Even the colonialism came into existence after the slavery door closes..The influential blacks were the one giving out human being as slaves to the whites while receiving gun powder, mirror etc....as exchange. At times, the just dash the black slaves or wrong doers in the village to the white in exchange for anything they want from the white men. The white men always take their gift slaves with them to assist in the sailing ship and often when they have less work to do at the home country, they use them in the farm. That's where they discovered that those blacks slaves or gift have a natural strength to work long hours without getting tired. Also, they have a better ability to withstand the diseases that affects the indentured labourers and the native Indians. The native Indians especially were dying out gradually cos they aren't strong for plantation jobs. Remember, it was our African Kings and Powerful ones, rich Africans that were engaging in slavery of their kinmen and women and sold them to the white slaves buyers......Blacks introduced slavery to the whites in the first place....it's in our culture to always categorized some people as slaves, also slavery started from the Arabs, the Romans empire etc....especially in the Mediterranean countries......abeg make i rest from history......we blacks are naturally wicked.......

Not only Africans o. Even the Bible people. Killing people who work on Sabbath day, bringing your stubborn son to the public to be stoned to death, killing people who want to avoid marrying their late brother's wife, cutting joysticks of people as bride price, killing infants, etc. They are all there in the Bible, commanded by God. Go and verify.

You sure don't know about the south west culture. Do you kill gods? Twins in the Yoruba culture are deities that are being worshipped, right from the onset. Go and verify.

Yorubas celebrated Twins because they feared them.

Igbos said "Twins are evil, lets kill them"

Yorubas said "Twins are evil, but if we bribe them and flatter them, they might carry their evil from us to our enemies"

Las las the belief that twins were evil still remained.
Yoruba worshipped twins as deities because they think that they are sacred. It is not the other way round.

This is not actually 100% true. Historians have said a few Yoruba communities also left twins in the forest.

We also need to be thankful to Christianity and the likes of Mary Slessor.

By the way, did I misread? How did the woman die at 115 if she was born in the 1800s?

1800 is a mistake. Certainly she must have born in 1900s around 1910

Mary Mitchell Slessor (2 December 1848 – 13 January 1915) was a Scottish Presbyterian missionary to Nigeria. Once in Nigeria, Slessor learned Efik, one of many local languages, then began teaching. Because of her understanding of the native language and her bold personality Slessor gained the trust and acceptance of the locals and was able to spread Christianity while promoting women's rights and protecting native children. She is most famous for her role in helping to stop the common practice of infanticide of twins in Okoyong, an area of Cross River State, Nigeria.[1][2]

Wow, this woman has witnessed about 2 centuries and 4 generations

Not really, there are other children like Ojo, Dada, Olomi that are referred as well. In fact, for Ọjọ, blacksmith would make a sort of sword 🗡️ for him and Dada, children with natural dreadlocks were regarded as special children as well. Olomi are special servants of particular streams or rivers.

In Yoruba culture, special children are referred not killed.

Born around 1800 indeed.
Who gave her 115 years.
You don't know when she was born but inserted an age for her.
No Nigerian has lived up to 100 years, let's stop deceiving ourselves.
Nobody claimed to have lived above 100 has a birth certificate or at least any documentation issued during time the person was born.
The only criteria used was that the person was born during so and so period according to so and so person or that he/she is order than xyz,who died 10-15 years ago at 90,100 or 110.
All speculation and conjecture
Lol, my great grand mother is still alive, and she was born in 1916, even my grandfather her son is currently 78 years old, so it’s possible but ‘’rare’’
