The news of the Federal Government proposing to build Bamboo Houses for the poor has been making rounds since yesterday through a statement reportedly made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation. But I was thinking that by now the Federal Govt would have issued a system providing clarifications that maybe they didn’t mean Bamboo Houses in its literal sense, but nothing of such has happened which means they truly said and meant what was reported. And I ask, shouldn’t we be ashamed that in the 21st century, our government is proposing to build bamboo houses for its citizens? Like seriously? And the supporters of government are cheering that too. So that makes sense too? Like, don’t you guys have a cut off mark below which you can no longer defend? Have you all become so shameless? |

SeeWahala:This is supposed to be funny but no region in Nigeria deserves Bamboo Houses. Not even the poorest Almajiri in the North does. This should be collectively condemned. |

Penguin2:Really? Why don't you let the ''poorest Almajiri'' speak for themselves? I'm pretty sure they wouldn't mind living in a Bamboo House: https://livingasean.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/12/2-16.jpg https://images.summitmedia-digital.com/realliving/images/2022/04/20/1.jpg https://www.yankodesign.com/images/design_news/2020/11/auto-draft/14-ulaman_ecoresort_yankodesign.jpg |

The problem is not the bamboo. The problem is your colonial mentality. If bamboo is not the norm in Europe and America, but instead reminds you of African traditional building, it must be 'backward and primitive'. Cure yourselves of that mentality and you'll start to think like normal human beings. |

Penguin2:Get well bro. Even in US plank and plywood are still used to build house. And what's wrong with bamboo if it is designed with touch of modernisation and innovation |

Penguin2:You mean a house like this is unbefitting for low income families?

This is what regular houses in the village would look like today absent of colonial mumurism. Built with 100% environmentally sustainable, green energy, locally available materials. This house won't cost up to 2 million naira to build, as I'm seeing it. https://i.pinimg.com/564x/15/6b/fd/156bfdb693e66fbac4ccb5939de88835.jpg |

I am sure you haven’t seen the type of houses bamboos are used to build. The houses are beautiful and there’s nothing wrong with it. So people who can’t make 25k in a month won’t live in a bamboo houses? Even Latin America does it. Costa Rica, Colombia have that for their lowest income earners. Americans live in a “container homes”, their moderately “OK” citizens live in a completely wooden homes but rich Nigerians wil never do that. The will prefer that blocks and cements houses. Something is absolutely wrong with our mentalities. Only Nigerians will go to Mali, Togo, Benin republic, Ghana to hustle as laborers, waiter or waitress in canteens, do all sort of jobs that they avoided back home. And these countries are miles away decayed than Nigeria. An average Nigerian wants to japa to anywhere in the world just to escape from Nigeria. But this is not the case with other African countrymen. Only Nigerians are found on social media attacking the country left, right and centre. But other African countries with poor infrastructure, bad economy etc are not found denigrating their counties online. Something is definitely wrong with our docile youths including the OP |

Sometimes I think the ministry wants to sound busy. I imagine that they discuss among themselves like this. Staff: They'll come out to accuse our ministry of inactivity in the government Minister: What can we do? Staff: Let's announce something that may never work, draw a budget and distribute the funds as usual. Minister: Excellent Do we have enough bamboo for this? What of the environmental implication in terms of deforestation..... |

OP, you are quite IGNORANT. In the US most of their houses are built with wood. Bamboo is extremely tough and is even used for bridges. |

I don't think a bamboo house would be bad, even in the US people live in houses made of planks. They would have made a prototype so we could see how the houses would look like before we complain. Bamboo houses are eco-friendly and sustainable too |

Op. You need to travel more. If we have lots of bamboo in Nigeria, we might as well make use of it. |

Kemetian:Must you defend everything? Even as Obidients, whenever we think Peter Obi has misstepped, we always disagree with him and he would have to offer explanations later. You have seen that happen a lot. But never with you guys; you defend even the absurd. Una no get shame? |

Kushites:What of fire nko, do you have the resources they have to contain a raging flames of fire. I hope you learnt from the one that happened in US this year. |

Britishpea:The money that will be spent in building the kind of bamboo houses you and your ilk are showing here can actually build a one room and parlour bungalow and have change. Or even a mud house and plaster it. That would be even more durable, safer and dignifying. Stop defending the absurd, my friend! |
