Accidental Discharge: Policeman Shot Dead By 10-Year-Old Son In Awka by Ofunaofu(op): 8:58pm On Jun 16, 2025
A police inspector, Mr Amaechi Okolie, has been shot dead by his 10-year old son, after he pulled the trigger of a loaded rifle assigned to his father.

The boy also shot his own brother who is the second son of the police inspector, but the victim did not die.

DAILY POST gathered that the incident happened in Awka when the boy who was unaware of the state of the rifle took it and pulled the trigger.

A press statement by the police command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga revealed that while the police inspector was confirmed dead by a medical doctor after he was rushed to the hospital, his second son was still in hospital and responding positively to treatment.

The press statement by Ikenga read: “The Anambra State Police Command has expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that resulted in the death of Police Inspector Okolie Amechi in Awka.

“The incident, which occurred on the evening of June 15, 2025, was allegedly due to an accidental discharge by his 10-year-old son. The son, unaware of the state of the AK 47 rifle assigned to the Inspector, pulled the trigger and struck the Inspector on the back and his second child on the hand.

“Regrettably, Inspector Amechi was confirmed dead by the doctor on duty at the hospital, while the second victim was said to be responding to treatment.

“Meanwhile, the AK47 rifle has been recovered, while the remains of the deceased have been deposited in the morgue.”

Ikenga said the command while wishing the second victim a quick recovery, condoled with the family and friends of the late Inspector

The shooting was more accidental than the one civilians suffer from happy triggered policemen. I pity the psychological trauma this will have on the boy. May the soul of the father rest in peace.

Happens when you don't secure your gun properly

The man should have gotten a good carpenter to.build a special storage facility for his gun.

Now he pays the price for being careless.

Why do people keep loaded guns so carelessly especially when they know they have kids around?
Re: Accidental Discharge: Policeman Shot Dead By 10-Year-Old Son In Awka by ICANLecturer(m): 7:28am On Jun 17, 2025
There are more to this:
1. Manifestation of supposed karma
2. Trauma of a child who killed his father and almost killed his brother
3. Carelessness of the father

In short, Nigerian Police needs urgent reform

To even think this happened on a Father's day celebration makes it more painful. While others are celebrating their fathers, this one is killing his father. SMH.

That boy must definitely grow up to become a police officer. Nothing can change that in this world. So interesting that as a minor, nothing would happen to that 10 years old boy, he has successfully turned the mother to a widow due to the carelessness of the father. Really, Karma is real......

FPS

Likkle kiddo shooting anything in sight

But why Police go carry gun wen Dem assign give am go house?

I thought it's supposed to be pick rifle from from station to duty post and when duty is over submit the rifle back at the station but Dem go dey break protocols because Dem still dey use the rifle "hustle" if you know what I mean.

Now see the catastrophic result.

Re: Accidental Discharge: Policeman Shot Dead By 10-Year-Old Son In Awka by windvane(m): 8:01am On Jun 17, 2025
This can only happen in the Nigerian police, you will never hear such with the military reason is that,in training you are always thought to put your riffle in safety if not in use after 10 seconds,in short, you get drilled by superiors once they catch you with your riffle not in safety at most times.imagine the extent, there are 3 levels before a rifle can be shot, yet a police man lose guard reach like that.very very unprofessional.....that's why you can hardly read or hear of accidental discharge in the military
