SERAP To Tinubu: Direct AGF To Withdraw Case Against Natasha Akpoti

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has asked President Bola Tinubu to withdraw the government’s case against suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (Kogi Central).

The rights group made the call, Monday, via their X (Twitter) account.

Earlier in the day, the Federal High Court, Abuja, rejected an application by the Federal Government to issue a bench warrant against Senator Natasha in an alleged defamation case against her.

SERAP said: “Following his expressed commitment on June 12, we call on President (Bola) Tinubu to promptly direct Nigeria’s Attorney General to immediately discontinue the case(s) against Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who is targeted simply for the peaceful exercise of her human rights.”

The government is prosecuting Akpoti-Uduaghan on behalf of Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi Governor, Yahaya Bello.

When the matter was called on Monday, the prosecuting counsel, Mr D.D. Kasue told the court that the matter was for arraignment but that the defendant was not in court.

Kasue told the court that he served the charge on the defendant’s counsel, which meant that the defendant was well aware of the matter.

The prosecutor prayed the court for a bench warrant to be issued against the defendant for failing to appear in court in spite of being aware of the charge against her.

“It was this morning that we were able to serve the defendant through her counsel, but the defendant is not in court".

Once SERAP joins hand, it's over for NATASHA. But why should they not seek full judicial discharge of the issue and calling Tinubu?

The prosecuting counsel should be given a light tap on the back of his head. He served Natasha's counsel this morning, and he's expecting her to produce herself in court the same day? What's with the fire brigade approach.

The counsel still has the effrontery to ask for a bench warrant to be issued against Natasha. Some of these lawyers have this stupid way they behave.

This woman sef. At first, I was really excited that Akpabio will be disgraced.
She reminds me of some fine girls in our secondary school days that teachers are afraid of disciplining.
She was just deceptively dramatic in the whole sexual harassment charade.

When Sandra Duru emerged on the scene, that was when Natasha started withdrawing from the public. Now that she has been sued for criminal defamation, she'd supply evidence for everything she had said in public. It is only fair.

Sometimes I laugh so hard at the statements.

Why is the federal government the one suing on behalf of Akpabio and Yaha Bello? And how can they serve her Lawyer in the morning and expect her to rush to the court same day?

So to SERAP. Defaming another person of criminality on live Media all over the world is a human right. So those being defamed don't have human rights?

Let her come out with her evidences. Nigerians want the truth, let her proof her truth.
