…COMMISERATES WITH BENUE STATE OVER RECENT KILLINGS

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, June 16, 2025, officially commissioned the Greater Abuja Water Supply Network, a landmark project designed to significantly enhance water provision across Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

In his address at the ceremony, President Tinubu commended the FCT Administration for its dedication to delivering vital infrastructure that directly impacts the lives of citizens and lauded the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, for exemplifying strong leadership and a deep consciousness of the people's needs.

According to President Tinubu, “This water infrastructure is not only a technical milestone; it is a moral one because it is about equity. It is about ensuring that no part of Abuja is left behind in our national developmental agenda. It's a renewed hope".

The President further highlighted his administration's commitment to accelerating growth, prosperity, and the delivery of reliable infrastructure, including human capacity development.

He said: “When we speak of the Renewed Hope Agenda, this is what we mean – tangible, people-focused projects that improve daily life. Water to drink, to clean, to grow, to build. That is real progress.

“We are not just laying pipes – we are laying the groundwork for healthier families, stronger communities and a productive city.
“As your President, I remain deeply committed to accelerating infrastructure delivery, especially in critical sectors like water, power, roads and housing. These are not only developmental goals – they are the building blocks of dignity”.

President Tinubu expressed gratitude to international partners, especially the People's Republic of China, for their invaluable support, saying "Together, we are showing the world that partnership built on mutual respect and shared prosperity can deliver real impact".

He urged residents and stakeholders to protect the investment, use water wisely, and collaborate with the government to ensure its sustainability.

The President also used the occasion to extend his deepest sympathies to the people of Benue State over the recent killings of about 200 people, pledging a visit to the State on Wednesday while calling for peace and harmony.

“While I sympathize with the Benue people, I’ve spoken to the Governor; the leadership and people of Benue should accept our condolences and try very consciously to maintain peace and harmony among themselves.

“I’ve always said that we are one single huge family living in the same house, in different rooms… We should be able to manage our anger and frustrations. I sympathize with those who have lost their lives. I will adjust my programme and go see Benue people on Wednesday”, President Tinubu stated.

Earlier in his remarks, the FCT Minister, Barr. Nyesom Wike, recalled President Tinubu’s directive to prioritize the completion of the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, among others, and expressed profound appreciation to the President and the National Assembly for their consistent support.

Barr. Wike explained that the project, awarded in 2017 at a cost of $470 million under the Partnership of African Development Initiative, was 85% funded by the Chinese government, with the remaining 15% covered by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration for Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6.

"We want to sincerely thank you that under this administration, this job has been completed and today you are commissioning the Greater Abuja Water supply network," Barr. Wike stated.

He also announced that procurement is underway for a new agreement with Chinese overseas construction giant, CGC, to extend water provision to rural areas and satellite communities, including Bwari, Kubwa, and Karu, and assured of its timely completion.

Charge d'Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, Mr. Zhang Yi, while also offering congratulatory remarks to Nigeria’s Federal Government, said the Greater Abuja Water Supply project, financed majorly by the China Exim Bank, symbolizes the strong friendship and consistent support between Nigeria and the China.

He added that the completion of the project had tripled the city's daily water capacity, providing clean and reliable drinking water to FCT residents.

The Greater Abuja Water Supply project involves the construction of extensive water supply pipe networks, specifically Loops 1, 2, 5, and 6, which are set to improve water access for 50 districts within the FCT, aligning with the city's masterplan.

We are suppose to have pass this level .

Water, road, electricity and security is government JD.
Commissioning road projects, water or electricity shouldn't be a milestone achievement after many years of independence.
Other countries are boasting of security, technology etc.

Very soon Fulani will use the water you commissioned to feed their cattle.

May Day: Hunger, unemployment, insecurity real— Tinubu

According to him: “The theme demands our collective attention and serves as a stark reminder of the need to create an environment where every worker feels safe, valued, and empowered to contribute to the growth and prosperity of our nation. As your President, I assure you that this administration is committed to creating such an environment for the common good.”

On the economic hardship, he noted that while it is a global phenomenon, its effects on Nigerians are particularly severe.

Tinubu said: “I am aware of the peculiarities of the economic hardship Nigerians face—rising living costs, hunger, insecurity, unemployment, and the loss of livelihoods. These challenges are real and demand definitive solutions, which I am poised to address as your President.

It’s indeed well inside the well of APC incompetence that has lasted over 10 years for shege promax on 200 million Nigerians instead of the promised change.

10 years of failing to employ workers in the FCT civil service to maintain water supply facilities and ensure clean and reliable constant water supply for all the residents of the giant of Africa’s capital city.

This one thinks life revolves inside party and tribal bants. The sane world has got its water works and supply system intact for over 50 years. It was easier then, when everything was foundational. It only gets harder as the years go by. Foolishly blaming a party and hypocritically exonerating yours shows how hungry you are.

This thing should commission by local government chairman not a president.

By the way why commissioning this little project just opens it to the public.

Buhari doesn't commission small projects like this. He was too busy awarding different contracts and building massive infrastructures across Nigeria. Buhari tuned Nigeria to a building site during his time. With massive projects littered in every nook and cranny of this Country

Incompetent Tinubu is now commissioning projects that were don by Buhari. Cause Tinubu has no project to his name

Which water.
By the way, abuja water supply comes from kaduna.
More than 85% of houses in Abuja uses borehole.

Close to my house,we have the water cooperation building but they don't have water.
Just like nepa office using generator.
All these political gimmicks.
Really tired of them.
