But I think the main difference is HUMINT. Israel has many agents in Iran - within and outside government. Iran is not in the same position with Israel. The same applies to Ukraine - it has people inside Russia, but Russia is not in the same position.

Iran has a lot of people who believe in 'the message'. (Kind of like the USSR, different message). That's another kind of feeling similar to the guy that feels his existence is threatened, but not as committed.

Also, Iran propaganda does throw in the fact that the nation is under threat (all them rallies where people call USA the great Satan is basically to reinforce that point)...but...at the end of the day, every iranian knows that no one can exterminate their nation.
