Joe Igbokwe’s latest outburst is nothing short of disgraceful. For a man who claims to be a voice of reason, he has once again proven to be nothing more than a cowardly apologist for failure. Instead of calling on his political master, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to take decisive action against the bloodbath going on in Benue and across Nigeria, Igbokwe is busy spewing ethnic bile to shield incompetence.

Let’s be clear: there is nowhere in the Southeast where 200 people have been massacred in one attack, nor where hundreds have been kidnapped in a single operation. The Southeast, like the South-South and even the Southwest he now serves so loyally, suffers from insecurity—yes—but nothing on the scale of what we are seeing in parts of the Middle Belt like Benue. The comparisons are dishonest, and the agenda is obvious.

Why hasn’t Joe Igbokwe mustered the same venom to question the leaders of his adopted Southwest over the disturbing rise in skull mining and ritual killings? Why hasn’t he summoned the courage to tell the truth about the rot festering under Tinubu’s watch? Because he is not a public intellectual—he is a paid attack dog. A man more loyal to a seat at the table than to the truth. His desperation to defend Tinubu, even at the cost of human lives, is pathetic.

And to be clear, no victim of the Benue massacres has come forward to tell the Igbo to stop speaking on their behalf. The truth is, Igbokwe is simply embarrassed that the same people he loves to insult are exposing the monumental failure of his chosen leader. Joe Igbokwe’s rant is not rooted in principle—it’s rooted in fear. Fear that the world will see Tinubu for what he truly is: a weak, overwhelmed president, and a master of optics, not leadership.

Joe should keep his bitterness to himself. The Igbo will not be silenced. Not today. Not ever.

Maybe they were following in Tinubu’s footsteps, just as he refused to condemn the killer herdsmen ravaging the entire South West. When he was eventually pressured to speak, all he could say was, 'Where are the cows?'
