You're clearly missing the point. Saying the South West “generates more VAT” doesn’t mean all the consumption happens there — it simply means that’s where many companies are headquartered and file their VAT returns.

A company based in Lagos can be selling nationwide, but all the VAT gets recorded as Lagos’ contribution. So yes, without sales in other regions, those high VAT figures wouldn’t exist.

Let’s not confuse point of filing with point of consumption. Big difference.

South West is just boasting for nothing, popping out irrelevant IGR, if e sure for you regionalise Nigeria, let’s compete on equal basis not sitting down in Lagos and collecting VAT of other states consumption. Let SE have equal representation first.

They should not be adding Lagos to South West because it was a former Federal Capital and is benefiting from siting of headquarters of most companies including Banks, Insurance firms, Shell, Chevron, Total, Mobil, MTN, Airtel etc...

And Lagos is getting bulk of these taxes from establishments that are headquartered there.

VAT is a consumption tax that goes to the FG and shared. The new tax bill will correct the anomaly. Company income tax goes to the federal government while paye( personal income tax) goes to state government.

it doesn’t mean there is less consumption in the SE. alot of businesses in the SE are one man businesses and they don’t charge or remit VAT ( tax avoidance). In a sane country if you build mansion or buy cars your tax records must match that income . You are selling generator or keke napep u are supposed to charge VAT for example. The companies like banks, FMCG, Telecoms etc have the consumption data available to them internally. But its not public information

see warped logic…..you call this poor showing measuring up? 😂😂😂pls tell us the federal presence in oyo state that makes it more viable than your entire region? SW without Nigeria will do far better than what we have today.

Even during the regional govt before the advent of oil,Sw was still the most developed and most prosperous region. Agriculture and Cocoa money was used to develop most of our infrastructure even till present day Lagos aside from Lagos island.

Lagos is just an icing on the cake for us in Sw when our ancestors were busy developing there region and educating it people, what were your ancestors doing?

That is not the solutipn to this data, thw solution is for the SE to. E paid only 10% OF WHAT IT CONTRUBUTED. All the previously excesses it collected previously should also be deducted periodically till it finish paying it.

That's true, if you check the map of Nigeria, Lagos is so tiny.
Without revenue from oil/gas the country won't function properly.
That's why those states alleging having high VAT can't stand on their own.

When you want to use numbers, be ready to go granular and explain what contributed to the SS and SE figures. Why would SW receive lower than they generated? What can be done to improve other regions and what are the factors affecting low numbers i the regions? Nigeria must learn how to apply numbers not just posting it for hellanus, zero8zero, and timemanager to post a smiley or 40 character sentence - although they don't comment on this kind of thread...they are looking for Army killed, govt destroyed buildings, senate to share 300% increase from subsidy savings...o ti lo.
