Tinubu Moves To End Benue Killings, Orders Peace Committee And Ranch Project
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed the formation of a high-level peace leadership committee in Benue State, following the massacre of over 200 residents in Yelewata community, Guma Local Government Area, by suspected armed herders.

During a town hall meeting held in Makurdi on Wednesday, Tinubu described the crisis as a long-standing wound that must be healed urgently. He ordered the inclusion of traditional leaders, including the Tor Tiv and Ochi Idoma, in the peace committee and tasked the state government with ensuring the committee’s effectiveness in facilitating reconciliation and security.

The president also instructed the Minister of Livestock, Idi Muktar, to immediately begin working with the Benue State Government on establishing a ranch, describing it as a sustainable step to resolve the lingering farmers-herders crisis in the region.

“For us in Nigeria, we must find a solution to the root of this conflict. We have enough land to cultivate and raise our children. If we learn how to share and accommodate, we can all prosper,” Tinubu said.

He emphasised that peace in Benue is critical to national food security, adding that continued violence would frustrate any efforts to achieve economic development and food sovereignty.

Turning Tragedy into Economic Opportunity

Tinubu called for a collective approach to rebuild the state’s economy, promising federal support in converting Benue’s tragedies into avenues for growth and job creation.

“We will establish a ranch in Benue. Give me land. Let us shake off this backwardness and build a legacy without stain. Food sovereignty cannot be achieved in a climate of fear and death,” he declared.

The president reiterated his administration’s commitment to long-term peace, urging political actors to avoid fueling division.

“The value of human life is greater than that of a cow. Political enemies may try to distract us, but this is a time for unity, not division. Let us rally behind Governor Alia’s leadership,” he said.

Citizens Must Work with Government

President Tinubu urged citizens to support state leadership and commit to peacebuilding, saying sustainable security must come from within the communities. He also proposed a committee of non-indigenes to ensure all groups are represented in the healing process.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, who welcomed the presidential directive, assured stakeholders that his administration will act swiftly on the president’s instructions and called for collaboration with federal authorities to bring peace and development to Benue State.

Who said we are looking for peace?

We know we want peace but there would be no peace until there’s justice

Find the killers and bring them to justice… that’s the main issue

No now Mr. President.. you can't take lands in Benue to build ranch for killers disguising themselves as herders.
Such a move will be perceived as victory for the killers of Benue people.

Anyone that wants to rear cattle should set up a ranch in Sokoto or Zamfara to graze cattle in their States. This is not a well thought-out solution coming from the President.

What we need is genuine solution.. order the Armed Forces to go after the killers and make them pay for the crimes they have committed.. this cosmetic kind of approach will only worsen the situation.

Nonsense! Arrest the culprit, bring them to book before your peace initiative. If you deal only with peace, What happens to those that lost their loved ones and means of livelihood?

The ranch would be controlled by the FG or state owned.

The cattle owners would rent spaces and houses inside the ranch which would serve IGRs.

Veterinary doctors and nurses would get jobs.

Remember cows are not only owned by the Fulanis alone but by some indigenous people too.

Left for me, considering the killings that are happening all over the country and accusing fingers are all pointing to the Fulani herdsmen, no single Nigerian should even rent anything out to them, because in the long run, it's always bloodshed, agonies and pains.

Anyways, if they allow for this ranch and it becomes functional, any Fulani found in the forest outside the ranch should be treated as a terrorist.

Enough is enough! They are not the only Nigerians on the Nigerian soil.

The Hausas who gave them the opportunity are not this evul.

Let there be peace 🕊️ in Nigeria.

So las las the same Ruga that they rejected is what a "southern president" is offering them
Why then did people shoot down Buhari's ruga initiative
Shame on the south
What this shows is all those clowns shouting southern Presidency should now realise that all those senseless regional agenda only serve the selfish interests of politicians. All of them are not different from themselves
Buhari brought Ruga and dropped it when it was rejected. We blamed him for bringing a Fulani agenda.
Now Tinubu, a Southerner who has been widely pictured as a visionary that comes up with unique solutions can't think of any other thing than the same Ruga that the south he claims to represent rejected under a Northerner. In fact, he's the first president in Nigerian history to create a ministry for cows headed by a Fulani!!
So I ask again, what difference does it make having a southern or northern politician as president apart from petty sentiments used to sway the gullible and myopic?
Fun fact: I'm sure Ortom will still remain good pals with Tinubu even after he's bringing up same Ruga he rejected as gov
Another fun fact: if you remove the sovereignty of Nigeria which forbids civilians bearing arms from the equation, the Tiv tribe will decimate the Fulanis with relative ease than the Nigerian army and send them all the way back to whichever hell they came from. They've done it before.
Nigeria is a scam created to lord some people over others!!

There is nothing like reconciliation with people who kill to take over land. Benue is an agricultural state. You can't have cattle roaming around and eating people's crops. The state has a law against open grazing. Why isn't that law being respected and enforced?

Go after the killers. Bring them to justice.

Not a single bullet shot or person killed in Rivers and he suspends the governor and legislature - illegally.
Hundreds of people killed in Benue and he doesnt do same.

Nigerians should learn that everything this man does is simply for political corruption.

Cows are placed above humans in this country because we can't hold our leaders accountable.

This is a reinvention of "Ruga"
You want to take Benue land and give it to the land grabbers.
What of the killers?
Where are they?
Have they been arrested?
What is peaceful in oppressors not being brought to book?

Mr. President, these are questions to be answered.

What a pity to the dead. Their voices was not heard in their life time, neither was their blood respected after their demise.
It always wise to move when there is crisis. Only the living tells the outcome of the story.
