My Fellow Nairalanders,

We have implemented a minimum post size of 40 characters in order to improve our content quality. We want people to patiently compose substantial replies before hitting the submit button. Based on your feedback, we may increase or decrease the limit in the future.

We have also extended the blocking period between members to 3 weeks, because many Nairalanders felt that the previous duration was too short.

Our automated system for dealing with spam and toxicity is now much smarter than it was in the beginning. It's now much less likely to take action against innocent posts. Alas, it is still far from perfect, so please be patient with us as we strive to make it more perfect.

Correct guy! But seriously the 40 characters is still too small. To increase the quality of post or response I think it's better to use word than characters.

AI just took some mod's job. Time to have AI institutes so we all can boost productivity with it instead of crying about it.
Meanwhile i have to add that AI still has bias for certain user account. I cant post thing here but when passed to other account, can be posted. Maybe AI considers banning history of users individually when scrutinising posts.
I seriously believe this assertion. The AI is more critical on some users account and has the tendency to block their posts. I was thinking about this before seeing your post. Some comments don't mean insult and the AI is blocking them. Seun, please look into this.

I can take a banned post on my account and have another account post same on same thread/topic. AI will even like and share it (lol) from the looks of things.

Please, there should be freedom of speech. While trying to minimise abusiveness, do not take away freedom of speech of users.

Two users can have saparate views on something. As far as their views are constructive, no body should ban anybody.

Always know where to draw the line as you continue implementing these measures so users won't go into extinction and abandone the platform for a more liberal platform.

People these days now seek a more liberal leadership/system than a dictátor type of system.

Seun one of your moderators blocked me for six months. He called me Igbo of course he knew I would get annoyed as Ikwerre person. I retaliated to call him Osv which I knew he would get annoyed as much as I was. He ended up banning me for six months.

You can't improve engagement through censorship, I feel people should have the choice of typing short or long, the major problem of this forum isn't engagements, it's far from it. With that update you're taking the site 10m steps backward. The major problem or NL is bullying and other backward option, I've been trying to change my email for this account for the past few years with no success.

Please can you reduce the number of times "women" or other slurs targeted at women being made in a day?
For example,a moniker is not permitted to use "women" more than 3 times a day in the romance section?

They really need to put in more effort, this platform is turning into an anti free speech platform. You post something you don’t like about a person, you get blocked, why nah, must I like everyone 😤

freedom of speech is being eroded on this forum and it not ok, i keep getting ban for saying the right things, same view no things i say on other social media platform without anyone even blinking an eye
Re: The 40 Character Minimum And Other Forum Updates by nwirinedu(m): 2:35pm On Jun 19, 2025
If your mods weren't banning people with impunity there would have been quality content on the forum. Its disheartening that someone will take the time to phrase content and someone will just ban it on whim. Post should be evaluated on their own merit , inclusivity should be a criteria too.

Thank you for your efforts so far, though the 40 character rule may not be the best as the value of a comment is not in the length but the point. However, being at the other side you could know than us the users.

Then, on the issue of bot, I don't think the bot is any smarter. The cannot differentiate between opinion and toxicity. It seems there are names it doesn't like to see in negative statement. Example tinubus name. Tinubu is the president of nigeria who has performed very poorly so far, though not to my disappointment as I expected it before hand. However, the bit keep banning me each time I express my right to criticise the govt. So please leave the banning period to what it was before, 30minutes at the jotnis currently overdoing. I have been banned for more than ten times this week alone for critcising tinubus regime. Kiloshele!!!

This is a criticism of Tinubu. It was not blocked.
However, I have seen examples where very aggressive anti-Tinubu posts were erroneously blocked.

The people using bots to like their own posts have reactivated it. Please check; they're trying to use their high number of likes to sway people's opinions towards their political cause. On a thread where the average 'likes' is 2/3, you'll see them pulling 40, 50, 60.

Good, provided it's not meant to gag certain individuals!

When all is said and done, Seun, I personally felicitate with you for creating a public forum such as this.

Things can only get better!

Cheers!
