Can A 40 Years Old Man Still Acquire IT Skill? by Godfullsam(op): 10:10pm On Jun 19, 2025
Good day guys, I have a big bros who wants to acquire IT skill @40.

Dude has a job and he is doing fine. But he said he wants to switch to IT.

Problem is, he said he doesn't want a skill that requires too much of coding.

I kind of suggested data analysis for him but he hasn't given me feed back if he is comfortable with data analysis.

So Guys, pls what other IT skills can you recommend for someone in his 40s?

Here are some Information Technology skills that dont need coding he can learn:

1. Digital Marketing: This skill can never be outdated as long the internet is still in existence. It is the art of using different digital techniques to drive traffic to a web destination.

2. Video Editor/Youtuber: You will have to learn how to edit and shot videos using any gadget and software of your choice. The videos are then published on your youtube channel.

3. Graphic designer: You will have to learn Photoshop, Corel Draw and Illustrator.

4. AI Content Creator: You will learn how to use AI + Neural network to create images and videos which you can use on social media platforms.

5. Ebook Creator/Infomational Marketer: You can write tutorials and story books that you can sell on Amazon, selar and gumroad.

6. Social media Influencer:

All will need time to master and grow so he should not stop his work.

At 40, it is not too late. Many 70 and even 80s though professional are still presently in IT. However, since he wants to start newly; it all depends on how discipline he is and how he can nurture his passion to success. At this age, he does not need trial and error that many younger may want to experiment with; he needs to go straight to the point to make money for himself and open financial freedom for himself.

Unfortunately, what he hates "Coding" is where he can quickly make money if he can discipline himself. If he can start with mobile application development and gets discipline to it. He may be lucky to start developing apps and put them on play store for monitization and sale purposes. If you are not trying to cut corner with Google and stayed discipline to your development curve, your simple app may generate you billions from worldwide sale

However, it is not as easy as I talked am. Competition is high, but you also have access to potential market in billions open for patronage. To be frank, you can't do coding as part-time; it demands more time and your social freedom. If you trying doing coding as part-time, you may still find yourself at learning stage at 50yrs without being able to write one single app.

It demands focus and time, but may pay off and set you on your early retirement if one of your apps becomes highly patronized and we'll rated.

If you try other option like web design, the problem you may face is who gives you contract or job. If you don't have that kind of capabilities to move around and be at the neck of many companies, you may not get a single web design job.

However, if you can move around and source for contract and never get tired of meetings upon meetings with different companies where you are sourcing for job, then it is easier coding than mobile that you may consider.Similar experience with data analysis except you want to go back to freelance like Upwork to source for job. I will advise you not to leave your job first as you explore options

I started at 42

No knowledge of anything

Now I have built a to-do list, invoice generator, inventory system, basic CRM

All with html, css, JavaScript, bootstrap and Nodejs.

I start coding last year May 2024

It's been a lot of long nights of learning and relearning, I work and am a slow learner, so I just learn at my pace.

What helped me most

Learning to explain my code with lots of detailed comments

Keeping a journal for my code, so I can read it when I have free time

Using YouTube to learn a new project finish it then feed my notes and code into AI for a better understanding and quality question and answer session with test cases and challenges

Learn to pace yourself

Learn to debug your code

Console log is you friend when you don't know whats going on

Once you start and get to the level where once you see any code you can understand what it's doing, once you are at that level, you mind will begin to want to do try new things.

And know that once you can understand what you
