Benue Massacre: Peter Obi Slams Tinubu For Not Visiting Yelwata Community by NassBoy(op): 8:34am On Jun 20, 2025
His Excellency, the former governor of Anambra State, Chairman Of Fidelity Bank PLC, former Special Adviser to the then-President(Olusegun Obasanjo) on Economic Matters and Labour party presidential candidate in the 2023 Presidential elections, Mr. Peter Gregory Obi has taken to social media to criticise the President's visit to Benue without going to the site of the attack in order to have an On-the-spot assessment of the level of destruction done in the community of Yelwata, in Guma Local government of the state which occured last Friday night in which about 200 innocent and defenceless inhabitants of Yelwata Community were murdered in the gruesome manner.

OBI Wrote:

One of the consistent principles of leadership is the willingness to make ultimate sacrifices and take risks. A true leader does not make excuses or complain; he shows up, sacrifices, and provides solutions, especially in difficult times.

While I do not advocate for our President to expose himself to monumental risks, I cannot accept the excuse that bad roads prevented him from reaching Yelwata in Benue State—especially after he had already made it to the state. This visit happened days after the massacre, with enough time to plan appropriately.

But let’s ask the fundamental question: Who is responsible for fixing the roads if not state and the federal governments? If the Commander-in-Chief cannot reach a part of his own country due to bad roads, what hope is there for the ordinary Nigerian who plies those same routes every day?

Leadership is not about comfort; it is about sacrifice. It is about standing with your people, especially in moments of pain and tragedy. You cannot abandon your citizens in their hour of need. You don’t offer excuses when action is required.

Even if we accept that the roads were truly impassable—which they are not, as presidential aides and staff managed to navigate them—what happened to the use of helicopters? Are we saying a nation that boasts of a presidential air fleet could not airlift the President to Yelwata to condole with grieving citizens?

The people of Benue did not need protocol or explanations. They needed empathy. They needed presence. The roads may be bad, but what is worse is the institutional neglect that brought us to this point.

A New Nigeria cannot—and will not—be built on excuses. It will be built on the sacrifices, courage, and responsibility of true leaders.

A New Nigeria is POssible.

I'm sincerely disappointed with Tinubu for not visiting Yelwata Community. What was his reason for visiting Benue then?
Why?
The road to Yelwata is impassable or what?

Goodluck Jonathan would have visited there.
Peter OBI would also have done same.

I remember how Goodluck Jonathan visited the site of the Nyanya bomblast in 2014. He visited there the next day of the blast even when his security details discouraged him and advised he waited a lil longer, but he said no. He still went.

God help us in this country
who’s responsible for fixing bad roads?
You can’t use your own failure as an excuse to avoid your duty.
If bad roads stop the President, what chance does the market woman or student have?
Bad roads didn't kill them, Neglect did!
When leaders abandon the grieving, the wound cuts deeper.
We need more than sympathy. We need sacrifice
Leadership means fixing the problem, not hiding behind it.

Hello, did you even read the text.

Hello, it is actually your beloved president that's playing politics with the lives of Nigerians.

It's always important to focus on the message irrespective of who is passing it.

How can someone die in a family, you pretend to go for condolence visit, but only stop at the home of the community chairman??

Does that make sense?

Isuochi in Abia state is still waiting for Peter Obi to visit and commiserate with them over the herdsmen killings there. If not for anything, Abia voted for LP and doesn't deserve to be snubbed by Obi.

Na wa o.
It's very sad, he would have used chopper and fly to the town but he prefer to cause traffic with his 70 SUV envoy. Yeye president.

As for Obi criticizing the govt of not fixing road, should we show him his pictures of when he was doing spider man cos of bad road in his state?
Re: Benue Massacre: Peter Obi Slams Tinubu For Not Visiting Yelwata Community by joeyswift(m): 9:32am On Jun 20, 2025
You don't need to like Obi to see the sense he is making. Put politics aside, Tinubu didn't do well not visiting yelwata. What was the essence of going to Benue state?

Tinubu can't do everything in your mind!
He can only do his bit.

He went to Benue!
He visited the hospitals.
It's enough!

The main issue is for his officials to work and stop the massacre!

Food don done for Reno Omokiri.
He will write about 20 different counter posts/attacks with this and will be releasing them one by one while waiting for Peter Obi to make another post/speech.

Peter Obi is the one feeding Reno Omokiri and his family indirectly.
Imagine if there's no Peter Obi, what will Tinubu and APC be paying Reno Omokiri for?
Re: Benue Massacre: Peter Obi Slams Tinubu For Not Visiting Yelwata Community by Dogalmighty17: 9:32am On Jun 20, 2025
The road leading to Yelwata is a very smooth dual carriage way. There is no bad road. Yelwata is a community on both sides of that road. So that excuse the president and his team gave is a lie.
From Abuja to makurdi is a smooth road with no potholes. The CDS and IGP visited that community so what excuse does Tinubu have?

See the road to Yelwata. Pictures don't lie.

This is the bitter truth that many urchins in the APC party don't want to hear. It baffles me to think that these are real human beings defending ineptitude and bad government because of sentiments.

You can see one of them below cry

Tinubu is a man!

When will the boy mature!

Last time Obi said Tinubu wasn't on black when he went to greet the injured!

See brain!

Peter Obi is a private citizen and isn't obliged to visit anybody. I wonder when yall will realise this.

It's a shame that killings is now an Avenue for most of you to vent your hate for PO as though it's his responsibility to prevent or condole.

Who he wants, he visits.

Natural causes didn't allow the president to visit Yelwata!
At least he was in Makurdi, but for turning the visit into a political fanfare, everything would have been fine.

Obi is a clown! He wants the president to be waist deep in the River Benue, just the way he did when he was governor, before he will be satisfied! Till this day, that area is still flooded!

Perhaps, the presudent should visit every part of Nigeria where there is violence. The governors can just sit back and watch. The president will travel to Enugu, then Kwara, then Benue, then borno and so on.
