Not Every Tragedy Must Be Exploited For Political Gain - O'tega Ogra by naptu2(op): 4:19am On Jun 21, 2025
O'tega "The Tiger" Ogra is currently the Senior Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Digital Strategy, Engagement and Communications.

O'tega Ogra @otegaogra

Without mincing words, it is regrettable that a former presidential candidate and ex-governor, PGO, whose own so-called ‘leadership’ record is permanently stained by one of Nigeria’s darkest chapters of police brutality under the disbanded Akwuzu SARS - a police unit that killed on sight in Anambra under the guise of Mr Obi’s infamous pronouncement. A man who presided over the systematic suppression and marginalisation of minorities be they political, religious, and/or ethnic; and who once aligned with those who sought to undermine Nigeria’s democracydring the dark military years. This same individual now seeks to lecture others on leadership and politicise a tragedy. Shame.

The tragedy in Benue (another one in a long list of decades-long skirmishes that continue to burden that region) is deeply painful and saddens all genuine Nigerians and Mr President is giving it all the attention and seriousness it deserves.

As we speak, the Chief of Army Staff has relocated to the affected zone on the directive of his commander-in-chief. Internal security apparatus and intelligence agencies have been fully activated and deployed. Mr President has given marching orders to his NATSEC apparatus, and he has also advised the Chief Executive of the State on what to do.

President Bola Tinubu visited Benue on Wednesday, and has remained in constant briefings and debriefings with security chiefs, the Governor of Benue, and other critical stakeholders.

As a former chief executive of a state, sir, you should know that security incidents differ in context, complexity, and causes. Each is, and must always be addressed with the urgency and discretion it deserves.

As President @officialABAT said, ‘Enough is now enough’. We cannot continue to politicise human suffering or perform grief for applause. What happened in Benue is a national tragedy. Lives were lost. President Tinubu is fully committed to ensuring accountability, justice, and a long-term resolution to the root causes of violence in that region, God-willing.

In cases like this, it would be wise to be more circumspect, empathise with the victims of the tragedy, or, better still, heed the counsel of sages across history that, “you do not preach in white nor play politics with the tragedy and pain of others especially your record is written in lies and blood.”

Please show leadership in your conduct, sir.

P.s: A couple of years ago, President Tinubu famously advised then President Jonathan that the ‘bulk’ (not ‘buck’ in this instance but ‘bulk’ as in most of the work) stops on his table with respect to National Security. That opinion has not changed hence his application of all necessary means from intelligence to internal security, stakeholder engagement amongst others in finding a solution to this perennial crisis

Nigeria will succeed.

Otega ‘The Tiger’ Ogra

Clear example of corruption fighting back. You’re in control of the army, police, DSS and all the security agencies yet your most active agency is the propaganda agency.

Your biggest achievement with all these security networks is bullying your political opponents into submission, not protecting the people you swore to protect

So Peter Obi as governor was the commander in chief of the armed forces that he controls federal police? Trying to divert attention. More then 200 people were killed in Benue

When Goodluck was president, didn't this set of people politicize boko haram attacks?

Sadly this is the demonic trait about the APC during the time of Goodluck Jonathan. They politicized every unfortunate incident that befell this nation especially the recurrent killings by BH terrorists and alleged Chibok school girls kidnapping. So can this asslicker direct his gospel to the evil party men in govt today.

You call APC demonic for exploiting the security challenges but praise Obi for doing the same, does it occur to you that if Obi ever become president (almost impossible though) the security situation will be worse in multiple fold?

Or you think oppositions and their supporters will not frustrate his government with same thing since it has proven to be a game changer and sure way to get power?
Re: Not Every Tragedy Must Be Exploited For Political Gain - O'tega Ogra by Ofunaofu: 6:26am On Jun 21, 2025
Mr. O’tega Ogra, We understand it has become an obligation to attack when Peter Obi is involved especially when you're a Media lackey, MÁGÁ dóg, senior domestic servant, mandate stander etc of President Tinubu. That said, the recent tragedy in Benue is deeply painful, and no responsible leader should remain silent in the face of such violence. Mr. Obi’s comments were not political theatre; they were a sincere call for urgent and effective action from a government duty bound to protect its citizens.

It is, however, disingenuous to attack his credibility while deflecting from the real issue: the continued failure to prevent the loss of innocent lives. Attempts to link Mr. Obi to anti-democratic actions are both false and ironic. Mr. Obi never aligned with military regimes nor compromised democratic principles. In stark contrast, Bola Tinubu’s well-documented approach to General Abacha lobbying for a commissioner post in Lagos right in the middle of the struggle betrayed the spirit of the June 12 struggle and MKO Abiola’s legacy.

On the Akwuzu SARS issue, Mr. Obi did not create SARS, nor did he control its operations. There is no credible evidence linking him to extrajudicial killings. As governor, he operated within the legal limits of his office and did not run a parallel security command.

This moment demands leadership anchored in truth, not propaganda. Nigerians deserve security, accountability, and a government that protects, not excuses and certainly not one that rewrites history to shield itself from criticism.

This one has to justify his pay. Maybe he was autistic when Tinubu and his APC goons used insecurity as a political campaign tool against GEJ.

But security of lives and properties is the first role of the FG to its citizens. Why is it rocket science to minimise this killings or put an end to it?

"decade long skirmishes"

God will punish Otega Ogra

Benue that has consumed close to 2,000 people in the last two years is what he is calling skirmishes. Who is fighting in Benue except for one side murderous terrorists killing people in their sleep

How we forget.....in Bubu's time like now, so if we don't get to 200, or the Pope does not counter, it's not news....?
Another 19 have been reported killed in Plateau, yet to unseat power in Edo State, a state that could be the epicenter of the regime's resolve to decimate crime and serve as a deterrent, over 30000 police were on ground to do what..... prior the elections.?
APC playing the blame card since 2015.

The fraudulent writer started by criticising Peter Obi. How has PO exploited the failures of this government for political gain? What gains?

Is Peter Obi the one exploiting Tinubu’s failures, or is Tinubu exploiting his own failures by decorating the streets of Benue with APC flags during a condolence visit? No APC member seems normal anymore.

Tinubu is incompetent

Tinubu breeds insecurity

Tinubu breeds poverty hunger and depression

Tinubu is a failure

Do not be deceived by paid sycophants and political thieves

Don't hesitate to call out a failure, he knows better

So BOKO HARAM was not a terrorist organization again at that time?
