In the past 25 years of local and global rankings you hardly find UNILAG outside of the top 2, worst they list the school as 4th. Yet they don't have easy ranking booster courses like Agriculture where people submit lots of research papers every year.

Sometimes, politics, regional bias and prejudice cannot be ruled out.

That's the Times Higher Education ranking. However, it can be easily gamed by institutions. The most reliable are the QS and ARWU (this one is biased towards STEM fields and awards).

The organisation behind the Times Higher Education rankings has commercialised its rankings way more than others.

I disagree. They all have biases, strength and weaknesses.

Many of the universities in the top 10 are privately owned: MIT, Harvard, Stanford, Caltech, etc.

I don't think private universities were included in that list. Because, no matter what happens, Covenant University should be in the first 1000.

No one really identify with this ranking.

Times University ranking is the flagship and acceptable standard of Universities Ranking world over.

Covenant and Landmark are always a force to reckon with.

Babangida killed OAU. That school was one of the hardest hit with brain drain migration wave of that era due to the rural location. After that it was just noisemaking with little substance.

Well,and their students can make a hell of noise.

Although,the school was still well ranked as the time I entered in 2008.Decline started around 2012 upward

That is why you think Lagos defines the world.

They were always at the bottom. But what do you know.

You simply went for the least recognized ranking simply because your universities appeared there.

THE is a paid ranking site that can have your university boosted if you pay. In fact, after some top universities which are undeniable, it is widely known that rankings below 200 are paid for. That is why some times you can see Perkins University ranked 1 above Stanford, Cambridge or Oxford.


That is why covenant university and other Nigerian private institutions always top that list.

How? Those are federal Universities. Funded by the federal government. You should be proud of Nigeria if there's something to be proud of but unfortunately there's nothing to be proud of because I saw 3 universities from South Africa there in the ranking making top 300. University of Cape town made top 150

O boy I know but 80 percent of students are from South west.

As a graduate from UI, I sometime ask myself, if UI despite its defects, is still considered top-notch, it raises questions about the standards in other universities and the quality of their graduates.

The rankings have nothing to do with the physical structures or the ambiance.
Very little to do about the faculty but much more to do about the presence and activities of the academic staff in international journals etc. UI has an advantage in this regard bacause it is not unlikely that their profs have much access to funding as consultants here and there and thus have much to showcase. Besides, UI probably has more profs and docs than other unis . It is a game of numbers.

With the incessant strikes?
I don't think any of these federal universities merits it. South West universities' faculty of health sciences's just called off strike that started in November 2024.
Only God knows how many more before this year's end.

The UNN which is the first indigenous university in Nigeria has allowed hackers and unscrupulous hediioits take over the university. Hackers in charge of online business done on UNN website.

UNN: Rogues rule the website. Early this year, my cousin living abroad needed his transcript from UNN. He went to UNN website, the site says N20,000 was charge for processing and sending transcript by email.
They say anyone can pay from anywhere in the world. My cousin put his debit card. N155,000 equivalent was withdrawn.
Till today, no transcript was sent. Telephone numbers on the website including the VCs were ringing on the phones of the criminals.

UNILAG actually rank equal with UI on the ranking and both institutions are ahead of ABU. So the first place goes to UNILAG.

UNILAG is the number one ranked university in Nigeria and ties with another Nigerian institution.

You make no sense with your post. Educate yourself by first finding out about NUC's first ever university ranking then we can talk about various rankings in the past 20 years
