Justice E.G. Umokoro of the Bayelsa State High Court was on Saturday abducted by unknown gunmen in Yenagoa, the state capital, News360 Nigeria reports.

He was reportedly kidnapped at about 7:00 pm in front of a popular eatery located in the Ekeki area along the Chief Melford Okilo Expressway.

The motive for the abduction remains unclear as of press time.

The incident has heightened tension in the state, which has recently witnessed a surge in cult-related violence that has left several people dead.

The abduction of the judge adds to growing concerns over security in the state, amid fears that the escalating violence could undermine law and order.

The Bayelsa state police command is yet to issue any official statement on the abduction as of press time.

Our homeland security apparatus and systems is very weak. The officers and men on ground seems distracted chasing their personal aspirations, no focus and sacrifice for the job.

What do our intelligence officers and police men do with their time and all resources at their disposal?

There re police stations in every ward in Nigeria, these points are supposed to be for men and eyes on the ground, intelligence gathering and sharing with central command etc...we need to reshuffle or overhaul our security apparatus, too many compromised officers

Seems we can't deal a blow to this kidnapping and banditry menace, for over a decade now.

Weak punitive measures are to blame too, no strong deterrence laws.

Strong laws helps in deterrence and also helps to flush out the most evil brutish criminals from the system.

cry
The last report I read last night before I slept and I told a friend and she said she knows the guy. But I think she thought he is a judge in Delta because of the name Umukoro. Since he's in Bayelsa I doubt if it's the same person she told me about since she stays and comes from Delta.

Gunmen few hours ago kidnapped our own High Court Judge, Justice E. G. Umokoro. He was kidnapped in front of a popular eatery known as Kilimanjaro, Ekeki, at about 7 pm. Let us pray for his safe return.
I pray for his safe rescue. That means the judiciary should be weary

If high ranking people can be abducted, it will be a walk in the park for the common man.

You’re right.
The ordinary citizens aren’t safe either.

Las Las everyone go collect, the society that the judges failed to correct will finally consume everyone. I'm sure he leaves in a big house with all the added security, but alas he will come out and still mix with the common man, regardless.

But if it's for State Governors to release ₦50 million for the bereaved... That will have sense ... We have Money power... But lack Workable frameworks to make our system work..

Judges should learn how to give kidnappers life sentence instead of giving them small prison terms or plea bargaining. Evans case comes to mind
