A lot of people are saying that she has done well. I don't blame her, she is a professional athlete, and she has to earn money now, and when she is at her peak. Athletes are not like the rest of us working people, who have a chance to increase earnings. At 35 , she would be retired, at 35, a working Nigerian still has 20-30 if not more years of work, with the possibility of increasing earnings. And it was worse before the whole professionalization thing. That's why many great athletes of the past, retired, focused on their studies, and got a proper job.

But let's be honest, can NIgeria pay her 500000 dollars base money? Can we?

Francis Obikwelu defected from Nigeria to portugal...and turned up at the National Stadium in Surulere with a latest model car. Glory Alozie went to Spain, and went from 2000 dollars monthly from AFN to 24000 dollars monthly from Spain, plus coach and two physio thrown in.

Omo, I blame AFN and NOC for the way they treated her...but let's be honest, if they treated her fine, can they afford what other countries are paying? AFN treated Alozie and Obikwelu better, even paid them stipends on time,even registered them on time for olympics and stuff, and yet both defected because the money was better.

A lot of other African athletes have defected too, because the money better pass what our local federations can give them. I mean, can any African federation, pay any athlete 10000 dollars monthly, plus travel expenses, plus coach expenses. ? Even those that run for their country...Gebresellasie of Ethopia was paid far more from companies that he was endorsing than his federation, that's why he was able to run for Ethopia.

I mean, I recall one Senegalese athlete who defected to Belgium. Belgium is not the best paying european nation, but what they offered her better pass what Senegal was paying her.

At the rate we are going, all our good athletes will defect, because even if we fix NOC, AFN and NSC, they cannot offer base payments of 500000 dollars for any athlete, plus generous monthly payments. Not when sports recieves scanty funding from our federation.


We got to fix our governments, and we got to fix our athletics federation , but let's be honest, can we afford to pay 500000 dollars base fee to any of our top athletes? Can you?


That is why running an economy based on oil alone for 200 million people means we cannot adequately fund everyone.

Make we dey vote government wey go stop stealing and start making us make stuff the world needs. That is how turkey can afford to pay her 500000 dollars. They are an industrial economy that exports.

Francis Obikwelu did that in 2000 for Portugal or so and he's very ok today. Nigeria is a zoo that doesn't deserve dying for. If were the one, I do likewise.

How can you intentionally ruin someone's chances for good three times?

Imagine in your own house, your family cooked food you paid money for and for good three times they ate it all, saying they forgot you would need to it too. Would that sit well with you?
