World and Nigerian record Favour Ofili has reportedly switched allegiance to Turkey as of May 31, 2025. She made the decision citing the incompetency of the AFN.

Record-breaking Favour Ofili has reportedly dumped Nigeria for money-recruiting Turkey, where she's set to earn a $500,000 base payment that can rise to $1,000,000 if the move is completed.

Popularly known as 'Star Girl', the 22-year-old speedster who recently clocked a World Record of 15.85s in the 150m at the Adidas Atlanta City Games, has requested a switch of allegiance to Turkey and will no longer don the green and white colours of Nigeria.

According to reports, Ofili made the decision, expressing her frustration to the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN). - a move triggered by years of neglect. She started the process on May 31st and the same AFN leadership was re-elected this June.

We do not take the welfare of citizens seriously in this country. We are losing our best minds due to government negligence. Many talented athletes abandon Nigeria because of these welfare failures.

In 2021, she missed the Tokyo Olympics 200m Nigeria failed to get her tested in time. No one was punished.

In 2024, Nigerian failed to enter her name for the Paris event after she met the 100m standard. Again, heads did not roll.

I remember her in tears after being dumped out of the 2024 competition. It is only fair that she chases her dreams elsewhere, if possible.

We can't , even if we removed corruption.

For example, if we want enough athletes to qualify for Olympics and world championships, they have to take part in enough events in Europe and the US, and train to get times that would qualify them. That means more money than our sports people canafford now.

And we have to have good facilites. That one is another high cost of money.

In the USA, they have the kind of facilites at even high school level that we don't. Better diet, and good competition at all levels. That's how you get your Lyles, and your Colemans. Europe has a good club athletics scene, which is how you get many of their good athletes.

Nigeria does not have the above.

(Don't mention Kenya and Ethiopia. Average athlete there that is running long distances at high altitude from childhood, survivin on lower oxygen...and then he comes to sea level and runs against people that have never trained at high altitude. Yeah, they go win. And their fedrerations are as corrupt as Nigeria's own).

It's more than fighing corruption, you got to have good schools sports, good training facilites, good NUGA competitons at par with NCAA div 1 in the USA, and enough funding for trips, healthcare, and training, and high quality training facilites. You got the money.?
