It will cost you averagely $100k to train your child from 5 years to when she becomes a top athlete. Coach, gym, feeding, equipment, time is not cheap. You cannot spend such amount while you also invest your time and energy only for one country to dull you in your prime. You need to move and make that bread cos time is against you.

Better to face racism in a developed foreign country than to face tribalism in your own country.

Well, money is behind the decision. And both of us would do the same if we had the opportunity.

Nigeria cannot afford a starting base pay of $500k for just one athlete.

Congratulations Favour. All the best to you!
Not just money they cost this girl 2 Olympics . That is enough to run for Ghana

Obviously turkey would take good care of her than Nigeria.

If you know what upcoming athletes are passing through in this country, you won't even waste your time representing it. Check out any Olympics, most nigerians keep winning medals for their adopted country yet Nigeria itself goes home empty handed.

It's not Oridinary. Nepotism, tribalism and corruption has eaten deep into the system. And competing under such circumstances can give you PTSD.
I remember during the last Olympics in France some of our athlete had to borrow Bicycle from other participants to train

Captain Christian Chukwu made us happy when we are young but we were sad seeing him suffering before he departed.

The system owed him and abandoned him in time of need even till death.

Thanks to Mr Otedola for helping with his treatment abroad.

Let the Nigerian Athlete Federation be put to shame to the whole world.

Best of the talents are not honoured in Nigeria.

You see my people....no one understands Ofili better than I do.

Having graduated from the University at the age of 18, my result wasn't computed for a whole year and when it eventually was, a course was missing. They couldn't find my damn result. I didn't fail, I didn't pass - it was missing outrightly.

Long story short, after dragging with my department coordinator for a session, they "found" my result and I was mobilised for service at 20 (three months to my 21st birthday).

After completing my service, I started job hunting. I taught in a secondary school in Abuja for 12k monthly. When minimum wage was 18,000. It couldn't sustain me but I needed to avoid idleness by all means.

I have always been someone who advocated against Japa. I loved Nigeria too much that the idea of migration never crossed my mind for one day.

When recommendation letter was still recognised for employment in National Assembly, I made NASS my second home. I was running errands and menial jobs for Honourable Members just to win their favour in turn for employment recommendations. I will write a story about this one day.

There was a day the security men at NASS mistook me for Julius Berger maintenance staff and they beat hell out of me because the police officer who accosted me could not read the recommendation letter with me and mistook it for a forged gate pass. Illiterate police officers beat me mercilessly.

I still loved Nigeria. But COVID period broke me. I still re-evaluating my life choices. I had a master degree yet nothing was working.

All my friends who migrated legitimately all seemed to be doing far better. Married with kids when I could not even figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

Today, I regret not leaving when I had the chance to. So sincerely, the Nigerian system feels like it is designed to frustrate and waste the productive years of its talents and youths. You will think you are still young and time is on your side but by the time you realise, life has flown past you.

The AFN had 5 whole years to pacify Ofili and correct their errors......just look at the useless communique they issued, trying so hard to vilify the poor girl after wasting 5 good years of her productive life. When was AFN gonna do right by her? When she is 30 years?

Heck, I read somewhere that Mikel Obi once paid the flight tickets for his Nigerian team mates during an Olympics with the expectation that NFF would refund. Over a decade later, they never did.

If you have the opportunity to switch allegiance, do so with speed. Make money, name and fame, then come back to contest and elective position if you wish. That's the only way Nigeria will respect you.

It's painful to write all of this but it's the truth.

Please don't be silly. I beg you!
Do you know that core federal civil servants do not even get any gratuity anymore? It's that bad in the public service now. The police officer is even considered lucky to get 2m, go and ask retirees from Federal Ministries how far
Nigeria is a dream killer. I fully support her decision.

This man is just talking nonsense. A politically motivated speech, no sense of remorse for messing up the chances of a top athlete to compete, which she missed twice with tears. Just arrogant talk. Square peg in a round hole. No apology to her or any form or even compensation. He said they made moves... 😂.
Other top athletes are complaining too, it's just a matter of time. Smh...

is racism not better than what she experienced in the hands of Nigerian officials?

Hope u know the Amount turkey paid her for allegiance switch is far more than budget of AFN?

Don't blame her. Nigeria does not reward good service.
On the other thread, a superintendent of police was lamenting for ₦2m gratuity after 35years of service.
Civil service in Nigeria is like working as a slave for 35 years and only getting paid peanut after many years of retirement.

I still don't understand how the retirees cope.

Switch without remorse.

the federation doesn't care about your welfare, only the glory that comes with your hardwork.

If she is injured for example they will abandon her without think twice, so nne switch without thinking twice.

You have said it all. No reward for good service in Nigeria. Core federal civil servants don't even get gratuities, so that 2m the police officer got is a prayer point for some other federal civil servants. It's really bad. As at today, a level 13 officer in a Federal Ministry on CONPSS do not take home 200k monthly (after all the minimum wage and 20% increment). This is equivalent of an Assistant Commissioner of Police in the Police ranking. Why will I not migrate to another country and be washing plates if it will translate to an improved economic situation for me?
If you are not married, there's still enough time and freedom to leave. Nigeria is extremely tough for starters without Godfathers or family wealth, do your research and try Europe or USA thru marriage. It's still an open source alot are using to leave. Goodluck.

Tribalism remains the senior brother to racism. Anyone who survives tribalism should have no qualms about racists.

There's no tribalism in Nigeria..

Some of the biggest companies in Nigeria are 1gbo owned companies.

These companies could have sponsored and supported her financially if they wanted to.
