Northern Governors Demand Swift Action Over Killing Of Wedding Travellers. by Masterstroke4(op): 8:45pm On Jun 22, 2025

Governors of the 19 Northern States have called for swift action over the gruesome killing of some travellers, on Friday night.

Daily Trust reports that 12 of 31 persons who were travelling to Plateau from Kaduna were murdered in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State.

In a statement, Chairman of the Northern States Governors’ Forum (NSGG) and Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, condemned the killing, describing it as barbaric.

Governor Yahaya expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives, saying such barbarism has no place in a civilised society.

“I am deeply saddened by this horrific and inhumane attack. Such mindless violence against innocent citizens is unacceptable and must be met with swift and decisive justice,” he said.
He extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kaduna, particularly to the bereaved families affected by the attack.

He also prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for comfort to their families in this difficult time.

Governor Yahaya commended authorities in Plateau and security agencies for their quick response after the incident.

“The perpetrators of this heinous crime must be arrested and brought to justice without delay. This is not just about accountability; it is about restoring faith in the rule of law and protecting the rights of every Nigerian citizen,” he added.

The NSGF Chairman also appealed to residents of Plateau, Kaduna, and neighbouring states to remain calm and law-abiding, urging against any form of reprisal.

“Let us not allow the actions of a few to divide our communities or ignite further violence. I urge everyone to exercise restraint and patience as authorities work to ensure justice is served.”

He reaffirmed the commitment of the Northern Governors’ Forum to collaborate on strengthening security, promoting peaceful coexistence, and addressing the root causes of conflict and insecurity across the region.

“The safety and security of our people remains our top priority. We will continue to work together as Northern Governors to strengthen community relations, improve intelligence sharing, and ensure such tragedies never happen again,” he remarked.

200 people were killed in Benue state. Northern Governors forum couldn't find their voice. The particular community this incident happened has been subject to Fulani attacks for a long time. Neither the Nigerian army nor any security outfit bothered to come to their aid.

Now that community decided enough is enough and laid hands on who they could find. This turned out to be these travellers. Within minutes, a team of Nigerian army soldiers showed up and that's why some survived.

The question here is, are some lives more valuable than others? Why haven't the northern Governors condemned what happened in Benue state but can quickly find their voice in this case? Why was the army quick to respond here but not in Yelwata Benue state?

We may not want to accept it but the next civil war has gradually begun.

When Fulanu strikes, they really don't care about the casualties, but are always quick to stand for their own Fulani.

While I condemn the killings if innocent travelers and I truly hope the perpetrators are brought to book, I want other leaders to always come together like their nothern counterparts to condemn and demand true justice when their innocent people are attacked.

We don't just play politics and leave everything to the president.

If the Northern Governors don't find solution to the Fulani killings that emanated from their region, I'm afraid more and more Northern travellers will get attacked and possibly killed in the coming months.

How can they be silent on the root cause (Fulani attacks and killings) and be demanding for swift action against the resultant effect of Fulani attrocities across the country?.. where is the sense in that?.
Nigerians should collectively demand swift action from Northern Governors as well concerning the growing insecurity spreading to other parts of the country.

Whenever you hear their voice in killing issues, know that the killers are not their Fulanis ethnic soldiers. Or that the oppressor has been oppressed. Where's their voice concerns Benue and the same pleatue killing by Fulanis.
