What if you lost your parents at a young age ?
I lost my parents at a young age and I picked myself up and train myself through university and masters. And now I am married with a lovely wife that has PhD and we both earn insane amount of money monthly with other side business we run. Just have a positive mindset and don't let anything or anyone let you lose focus. Be strategic anywhere ,place or situations you found yourself. Peace bri

Not enough knowledge to criticize. If someone worked for 12 years in the 70s as a civil servant, it deserves some scrutiny. He didnt buy any asset or was it that he was a low level staff with pathetic pay?

I think this man may rather prefer to remain poor than to steal or cut corners as a civil servant, which is what we need as a country to progress as a nation. A virtue that should be celebrated to the high heavens.

The father only owe OP sound education, which I think he has already. He should intensify his prayers and also work hard, so that time and chance that will lift him up, will come his way.

I keep saying it, if men were born women, nobody will marry them.

Some men can't even allow their sisters to marry their own friends with the same character they possess.

A guy in my compound was telling me he can't allow his friends who he drinks and smokes weed with every night to marry his sister.

I said why?

He said the guy na him nigga but e too dey smoke and womanise too much.

He was telling me this while smoking his own weed and talking drunk.

Some men, bad character full them for body.

That's why most women now prefer to be single or baby mama or get a child with a sperm donor than living under the same roof with a man.

I see alot of men ending up alone at old age either due to they have attained a Doctorate in singlesness or the wives they married got tired of their excesses and left them all alone.

You think that Nigeria is designed for a stark civil servant to succeed? Its not all about blaming your father for failing. What are you doing with your own life with the resources at your disposal which your dad never had access to? Are you succeeding? You can lift your parents up if you really care rather than ranting. But I can feel and understand your frustration with your dad. But be careful so that you don't disrespect him and pack wetin you no know.

You think being in the civil service in the 1970s was everything? You obviously have not done your research! On top of that, there are peculiar problems to individuals. For instance, both of us could each be earning the same #1m, our responsibilities and outgoings are not expected to be the same. So what success means to one may not be success to the other.

Finally, live your own life. Leave your own dad else your children would say worse to your entitled narrow minded self.

But I think generalising in your statement is not fair, and is drawn from wishful stereotypes.
Coupled with that, current experience shows that the number of women who are desperate to be married trounces those of men. I would advise that we address issues on their individual merit.
