If you found out that your unborn child would have special needs, would you Terminate the pregnancy?

Me: YES. I would terminate the pregnancy.

When I commented on a lone post on the topic "I'll let her abort the child, cos it would be better the child was never born", some twitter folks came for me hard, suspending logic for sentiments. One even said Hawkings was a special needs child who grew up to do great things. Special Needs in this context is more of Cognitive. Hawkings was only physically limited later in life.

Anyways, I believe abortion should be made mandatory for foetus with potential to be cognitively disabled. Total waste of time raising them, no benefits to society. Even the parents might start to fight. If the child continues to live, they definitely will be bullied, harassed and injured.

Yes, the mental, emotional and financial stress can be overwhelming. So yes, if I knew early enough, I would have it terminated.

But if I had no idea and the child is delivered, then I will accept fate and conclude that he/she has a purpose to fulfill on earth. I won't love him/her less regardless

Should depend on the special need.

I don't think a pregnancy should be terminated because of autism or Down's syndrome. But more serious developmental issues - that will keep the person bound a wheel chair for life and bar him or her from basic functionality, being able to live independently and enjoying a measure of happiness - definitely warrant a consideration of termination.

Wisdom demands you terminate it to save you and the baby the lifetime stress and pain. It's not an easy decision anyway.

There are ethics to it so you can't just terminate because you think you are selecting tomatoes at the market, it comes with medical, spiritual and even moral complications during the term of the pregnancy.

It's a hard one because most of us are religious. But to face the truth, terminating such pregnancy would save the parents future trauma and may be, the child too.
But again, it would be a difficult one, even for me!

Though, it's a difficult situation. If one's life isn't at risk, it's good for the child too.
