Go and learn the farming properly before jumping into what you don't understand because of money. |

Fish farming is one of the lucrative businesses. But you need to ensure you manage it. Death and theft can reduce you to nothingness over night. |

Quite lucrative but there are challenges, high cost of feed is a major problem |

Very Lucrative talking from experience. Incase you are thinking to invest in fish farming, my family have one big fish farming which can also contain piggery hatchery and so.. It have 3 earthing ponds and accomodation with ofc boreholes and a large steel overhead tank inside about 6plots of land.. Nobody using it now as we are all busy with other things in our life. So if interested you can contact me or come check it out... We are willing to give it out on rent at a cheap price or just buy it off. Location is at orozo/loko abuja just near the road. You can quote me if interested. Thanks |

There are 3 farming businesses I can never dabble into Fish farming Rearing 6 weeks broilers for sale during festive period. For fish farming, a very great problem is that u must have time n b highly observant n u must like stress because. U must check d fishes at least 3 times in a day, note that I didn't tell u to entrust farm workers with it cos them go steal from u tire n most times the farm workers are not highly observant. As regards d highly observant part, u must know when they aren't taking d food n once u realize the water isn't bubbling again there's problem. As regards d issue of stress, u must b ready to sort them cos cannibalism is very real in fish farming n d bigger ones will always eat d smaller ones, if u don't sort in time your 1000 stock can reduce to 300 before harvesting. And another one is d issue of feed, it skyrocket everyday.......when I was working as a farm supervisor, I just Dey pity people anyhow cos there will always b complains n losses everyday for jjc farmers but established farmers have mastered it well. As regards rearing birds to sell at festive period, u will buy very expensive feeds, feed them for 6 weeks n u will b forced to raise the price to see your money.....if devil wan punish u make u no see everything sell during festive period, then the rest automatically becomes a loss because u have to keep feeding them n the price would have dropped. E.g if u sell one for 25k during festive rush hour, after festive rush hour n u keep feeding u will beg to sell it for 15k cos u will b tired of feeding them n u will just want to sell it any amount. As an experienced farm manager, the best farming is livestock farming Either Piggery Cattle Goat farming Sheep n co Just don't expect money in d next 3 years of starting, meaning u must have other sources of income but I tell u that after 5 years of consistency u will b a multimillionaire |

alphaconde:Increase expense means running cost is increasing. The goal of business is to keep prices low to gain monopoly of the market after making profits |
| Re: Fish Farming by TGreatGatsby: 9:43am On Jun 26, 2025 |
It's quite lucrative but it's a money man business. Meaning you can go several cycles before your profits starts to trickle in. The lessons are almost peculiar to each farm. The formula u get from Jack might be different from what you need, so learning on the experience is the main thing. |
| Re: Fish Farming by Emmy000seun(m): 9:46am On Jun 26, 2025 |
It very lucrative..but you need to approach it in two ways,..you can sell the live ones on bulk, and secondly try and get a smoking oven,so that in case or still, you can b producing smoked fish too, if d fish die for pound you can easily smoke it and recoup your money. youneedjesus: |

Fish farming is what I've ventured into before. I actually learned a lot from the experience though I didn't make the desired profits but I'm warming up to face it with all the required equipments and might. 1. You must be ready financially before going into it, you must secure your fish pond first (earthy fish pond near a river is preferable) 2. If you are going to use artificial fish pond, then you must make sure you have a constant water supply and constant drainage system of water which must never stop for a second or else the pollution from the fish can kill all the fishes in the pond in a day 3. After going through all the challenges and you are luckily successful, then you must know and get your customers right and you must also know how to sell or else all efforts would be in vain 4. There are also some technicalities you may need to know by consultation. |

| Re: Fish Farming by opes: 9:51am On Jun 26, 2025 |
It is very lucrative if: 1. There is enough cash available to support their feeding. 2. You are in charge and you handle the feeding yourself |

I won't say it is very lucrative or not. There are things you need to know. FIRST THING! Go and learn everything that has to do with the business. From seedling sourcing, feed types and sizes, treatments and ofcourse market disposal. You must know how many bags of feed needed for 1000 fish, when to introduce bigger feed sizes and ofcourse what to do when fish aren't eating. Equally very important is the quality of fish you are stocking. If you can, try stocking first grade seedlings as much as possible. Some wicked hatcheries will sell you runts or third grade seedlings. Anything beyond grade one or two will bring you looses. Only patronise proven hatcheries. Catfish business is an on-ground-in-person business. You have to be actively involved with the business. See and know everything by yourself. You can't trust anyone to handle things for you except what you delegate. Generally, by 5 months your fish should be averaging 1kg each. Then you are ready to sell. Do everything you can not to sell on credit. Go to the biggest fish market in your area and ask for the most reputable buyer they have. Tell them you have fish available and you are not selling on credit. It is pack and pay. Ofcourse you should know how much a kilo of fish is before you go to the market. So that you don't get short changed. If you need to know anything else about the business, send me a message. I have stocked 10,000 fingerlings severally. I have learnt a thing or two |

It is lucrative if you agree to launder money for a politician using your fish farming business. ![]() |

Slimani:I am telling u for free as someone who used over 4 years as farm manager before quiting it that fish farming isn't lucrative like that but the only people who make gains are the wholesalers. They buy in bulk from u per kg n they themselves sell it per one, if I get enough bar now I will try bullock farming n cow farming. That's d latest oil money, just get a fenced land n put probably 20 cows n 20 sheep's U don't need feeds cos they eat grasses normally, they only need water n enough medication. The major problem is that the money isn't instant so u must have what u are doing. Plan not to make money from it for 5 years n after 5 years u will have a minimum of 50 cows m 60 sheep's Just sell 20 of each n that's over 30 million. A grown cow now is around 1.4 upward A grown bullock is over 500 upward It doesn't consume your money but many can't just wait |

My dear friend You'll be discouraged by a lot of advices here but fish farming is lucrative though with its own challenges as well It's a business I ventured into and I made profit. Firstly, the location matters Secondly are you hatching or will you source for the fingerlings or juvenile? Thirdly source of water Fourthly which is the main wahala, FEED! FEES!! FEED!!! lastly your target market. Consider mortality rate and cannibalism as well while stocking up. Please keep your head up as it takes a lot of discipline to run a fish farm |

| Re: Fish Farming by Judolisco(m): 10:08am On Jun 26, 2025 |
Talking from experience it was lucrative before the removal of fuel subsidy.... Now jst hold money for fish feeds... If u have money to feed them and if u sell it to d right people |
| Re: Fish Farming by phr0nesis(m): 10:10am On Jun 26, 2025 |
The cost of fish feed is something else. If you can find a cheaper alternative meal, you'll make a lot of profit |
