These fools want more money to loot.

They haven't fixed governance, it's to squeeze more out of the masses they deem fit.

I will rather japa than stay here and be funding the exorbitant lifestyle of heartless and fantastically corrupt polithiefcians.

Let me go to a foreign land and be paying it and getting good democracy in return. Not this rubbish so-called GAME of politics they think they're playing (with human lives) over here

U are taxing me for what exactlty as a Freelancer? I applied to work with govt agencies from Immigration, to police, to custom, to CBN, u all did ur dirty stuff and employed ur political classes. I suffered, no data, no electricty, I was going to a betting shop to learn online skill, I will stand throughout the day under serious hit and populated air space to learn. It was hard becus of noise, I collected insults because i wasnt patronizing them but used their gen light. I toyed for 5 years and now make some cool 6 figures monthly, u want to tax me. Like I want to know, for what? What did u do for me?
Did u provide me electricity? I had to hustle and installed 5KVA solar system to enable me have light, I dig bore hole to get water, I pay security at our estate for better security, I drive my car on wicked potholes that keep damaging my car. I gain nothing being a Nigerian and u want to tax me?
Please can u tell me what u will do with my money? It is my sweat, I worked for it from ground up. Will u fix the potholes? Will i drive my car on a smooth road?
Will I have proper health care and coverage? Will I stop paying for estate security because we cna now trust Nigerian police? Can I get a clean water running in my home? Will I enjoy gas system so that I can stop using this deadly gas cylinder?
Will my kids go to govt univerisity that the environment can compete with that of South Africa? I am curious to know. If u arent going to do this, I shall pay no tax and I will glady leave Nigeria and will gladly pay my tax to Ghana. Bleep u all. We have important issues to tackle such as state police, true federalism, ensuring free and fair election which will fix many things. Nigeria has serious cash but they keep getting stollen by politicians and their friends and u wana tax freelancers who created something out of nothing!
At least, American freelancers have electricity, we have nothing. We built from nothing! Thunder fire u guys.

Nigerians are about the most taxed people on earth, it seems President Tinubu wants to tax Nigerians into oblivion. Its not just the officially stated taxes, but also lots of hidden taxes, and then myriads of unofficial taxes.
For example with the new N50 tax on every N10,000 digital transaction. My business pays between N2,000 to N4,000 daily. I have a friend that does POS business that pays close to N10,000 everyday. Then there is council tax, and other various local government taxes. State taxes nko, e dey. Then depending on your business and locations, there are the almighty "omonile".
Doing business in Nigeria is a herculean task.
.will this new tax system stop local government and state governments from taxing businesses and Nigerians
Re: New Tax Laws: Side Hustles, Freelance Will Be Taxed by dsenator: 12:47pm On Jun 27, 2025
What percentage of taxes will Tinubu and his fellow politicians pay? Nigerians should arise and demand for the true democracy as practiced in some of the western countries not this type that only makes payment of taxes mandatory for only the common people and receiving of largesse only the birthright of the political elite. While Paying taxes is not a bad thing, the utmost attention should be on how to eliminate insecurity and corruption in the country which are the hindering factors to thriving of businesses in Nigeria. The citizens will not mind to pay their fair share of taxes if they know that the taxes collected will be effectively and transparently utilized.

Two obstacles I envision which will hinder this new tax regime:

1. The dubious reputation and record of the Nigerian political class when it comes to handling public monies. Most Nigerians regard our politicians as little more than criminals and fraudsters. This erosion of trust between the rulers and the ruled, effectively means that nobody trusts the government to utilise tax income honestly and responsibly.
And judging from the country’s history with corruption, who can blame the Nigerian masses?

2

The reason why taxation works in developed nations like America is because of the existence of a large and wealthy populace. Nigeria allegedly has a per capita income of about $6,000 (which I believe is a wildly inaccurate figure because the average Nigerian doesn't earn up to $6,000 or N9.2 million per annum)

Will you be able to generate as much tax revenue from a poor country like Nigeria where the average citizen earns only $6,000 per annum....

Watch and see how this tax business becomes weaponised against political opponents and sections of the country that have the temerity to refuse to vote for the ruling party.
/
You do realize that in a class of 10, if one person earns N10m and the rest earn N50k, it greatly raises the average income far away from reality. In such example, the average income is N145k while the majority of the persons actually earn N50k. Average is deceptive.

These devilish idiots are eager to brandish tax here and there..but can they allow tax payers to also go after looters. How hard is it for you to work hard, then you pay tax and then someone comes and steal the money in plain sight.
Exactly. The point.

Why would I work andnpay tax then one dude will just come from nowhere and pack my money into oblivion and say its allowance for themselves.

Dem do well.

I noted 50 million monitoring for individuals. I assume the clowns who passed the law and earn 20 to 40 million a month th don't want to be monitored

Kidnappers too will pay tax.
Funny government. They keep borrowing even when people keep shouting. They only borrow to satisfy themselves. Now they want to tax the poor masses to pay their debts. God will punish these people.

Good afternoon.

With 64k monthly you are earning 768k annually

So it's taxable

300k Annually was the threshold ( 25k a month) . Now it's 800k ( taxable income)

That's not correct. And frankly, the writer of the article didn't give a clear explanation, making me question his/ her knowledge about taxation.

Depends!

If you run a business name registered business/sole proprietorship, all profits get applied with personal income tax, as you and the business are the same.

However, if the business is registered as a limited liability Coy you are separate from the business which is treated as a independent entity. You get taxed on your allocated salary and any payout you get from the entity.
This is the better route to go, however it requires more in terms of financial reporting & compliance.

Most small businesses fall onto category 1. Hence the need to "reduce purchasing power(devalue the naira) and capture with an expanded tax net" grin

My personal opinion, i am not a tax expert!

I'm not a slave like you. The tax in the UK does not end up in the Prime Minister's bank account or his wife, sons and daughters.
The UK PM does not use tax money to buy properties abroad or buy private jets and open companies that are tied to government money.
UK residents and citizens can see their tax work and they can protest when it doesn't.

Unlike the perpetual slaves like you, paying tax in the UK makes the government accountable to the citizens.

If you want to be a slave all your life, I don't.

Ha, I'm so shocked that someone can type this. And you want the country to grow. The companies that the government tax, is it the government that buys raw materials for, pays their workers, looks for customers for them, fuel their trucks and machinery for them? Yet they're taxed. No dey reason like this o, it's not good for your sanity at all
