Even though I agree that the conflict is not purely based on religion, there is still the religious angle to it.
You need to listen to how people call on members of their religion to kill all Jews/Israelis. Why is it that some people of a particular religion have vowed to destroy and wipe the Jews/Israelis off the surface of the earth and many of their followers are following that vow in countries dominated by the religion?

The difference in the case of Christians and Jews is that the Christian would tolerate and love the Jews, because the prophets of God were chosen from among them, right from Moses to Jesus Christ.! If they still refuse to believe, the judgement will b from God, not man. God has always had a way of dealing with them, long before now.
Israel is a country with small population (10m) so there can be more Christians in Iran or any other country than Israel. But what matters is that how are such Christians treated in Iran?
Go and watch how members of ISIS brutally beheaded and murdered Egyptian Coptic Christians and one Ghanaian Christian in Libya. What influenced them to do that if not religion?
