Tension gripped parts of Benin City on Friday, June 27, 2025, after a young man identified as Emma was gunned down by suspected cultists in broad daylight near the bustling Oliha Market, Newspremises reports.

The violent incident reportedly took place around Akugbe Street, causing panic among motorists, traders, and pedestrians, many of whom fled the scene for safety as gunshots rang out.

Victim Chased and Shot in Public

According to multiple eyewitness accounts, the attackers pursued the victim using two separate vehicles before opening fire on him in a calculated ambush. Emma, who was said to be a revenue collector for transport operators, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and died on the spot.

“They chased him for a while in their cars, then when he couldn’t escape, they shot him several times in front of everyone,” one eyewitness recounted.

His body was later conveyed by residents using a commercial vehicle to a yet-to-be-disclosed mortuary in the area, as authorities began investigations.

Police Respond to Scene

Following the shooting, operatives from the Textile Mill Road Police Division arrived at the scene to restore calm and initiate early investigations. The police also moved to prevent further unrest in the densely populated market area.

As of the time of this report, no official statement had been issued by the Edo State Police Command, and the identities of the suspects remain unknown. However, the brazen nature of the attack has renewed fears over the resurgence of cult-related killings in Benin City.

Rising Insecurity and Cult-Related Violence in Edo State

Edo State, and particularly Benin City, has witnessed a disturbing increase in cult-related violence in recent years, often marked by street shootouts and reprisal attacks. Friday’s killing adds to a growing list of unresolved cases, sparking fresh concerns among residents over public safety and law enforcement effectiveness.

Community leaders and civil society groups have repeatedly called for intensified policing, intelligence-led crackdowns, and grassroots interventions to curb the escalating threat posed by cult groups operating in the state.

The daylight killing of Emma near one of Benin City’s busiest commercial areas serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing security challenges in Edo State. As investigations continue, the public is urging authorities to act swiftly to identify and apprehend those behind the attack and restore confidence in public safety.

Governors sign death warrants, Japan a more safer, developed and civilised nation just signed death warrant for execution this week. I don't understand the rationale behind keeping demons alive.

https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.cnn.com/cnn/2025/06/26/asia/japan-takahiro-shiraishi-executed-intl-hnk

The man was not a terrorists or bandits, he merely killed, yet was executed, but in Nigeria we release terrorists that have killed hundreds of people, Nigeria is heading to self destruction with this disregard for the lives of legitimate citizens, sparing terrorists means they value terrorists lives more than the people killed by terrorists, this is an anomaly.

Governors we pay you too much and you help yourselves with so much from public coffers, to shy away from your jobs of protecting the lives of your people, sign death warrants, Nigerians are dying, and the people will react if this madness is not curtailed, Nigerians will resort to self help to preserve their lives, which is an inherent human right...and death penalty is the sure deterrence against bandits, kidnappers, and terrorists, it also remove the demons from circulation. These demons initiate and indoctrinate young killers, taking them out, helps a great deal.

Cultism is a sure way to death; death here in earth and hell fire after death.

Desist from cultism. Don't join it. Run away as fast as your legs can carry you
Re: Young Man Shot Dead By Suspected Cultists Near Oliha Market In Benin City by Love800(m): 9:19am On Jun 28, 2025
Cultism actually pays. Just like a side hustle for the boys. Some political or business groups pay and use these guys to administer roles and functions.
When you get to the top of the cadre in cult, money will start entering your pause from many gigs and allowances!

Teens and youths join dem too for influence and power. They want people to apply respect for dem and society to see dem as demi-gods!

And its a culture or trend that cannot be easily earased from our younger generation. Its a way to feel alive and active!

It takes a strong commitment and your homely background to avoid cult-activities because at the end, the disadvantage is mostly death and always running for your life, but it will be too late before you realize this!

Evil came in because man sinned.

The knowledge of good and bad came after Adam ate the fruit.

Ordinarily, from creation, Adams mind was originally filled with good deeds.
