abduleez1:You haven't watched Interstellar? Bro, you need to. I know your library is chock-full of media you're yet to consume, but try carve out time to see the masterpiece. I even envy you potential first timers. The first time I saw the flick, I was in awe of it. Totally blown away. |

oyaskii:A part of me thinks Nolan purposely took that route in order to secure an Oscar because he probably realized that's the only way to get his hands on it. Academy Award organizers are obsessed with autobiography stories and some actors who lost chances of getting an Oscar, finally won it when they acted a role in an autobiography flick. |

Children of Men........8.5/10 Copped this since December last year, but since it's brought back to my radar by the Hollywood list, I decided to expedite the watch. I must say it's a top top movie. Almost a masterpiece. Set it in a post apocalyptic world where most of civilization has collapsed after a flu wiped out children off the world, with the survivors left infertile. The whole world descends into total chaos when no one can hear the noise and laughter of children no more and no one could procreate; leaving the UK as the only nation left to fall into total societal breakdown and government collapse. More chaos breaks out in the UK when a miracle happens that could possibly save humanity. The movie started off slowly at first, but things really kicked off at the 27th minute and it never let up till the end. The suspense, the chase, the chaos was next level. I love the emotions at play in the movie. Well written, acted and executed. There was a scene at the end which left a tear or two in my eyes just highlighted what could probably bring the world to peace even for a brief moment with all sides forgetting who's the enemy briefly. Alfonso Cuaron is GOATED abeg. I gotta see more of his filmography. |

Kaycee7:Omo.... ![]() It's a top tier list you should try and see at least half the movies. |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by abduleez1(m): 9:23pm On Jun 28, 2025 |
Beorn:Yeah.... there's some top movies I'd try to clear off this year God willing. |

abduleez1:lol These list would always be subjective. They came up with it, from the entry of various ballot. I don't even believe there is any "true list" of best movies ever as it will always be flawed and swayed by personal preference and bias. That been said. You are absolutely right about CN having more than TDK on that list, considering the films getting shouts...he literally has no bad movie in his catalogue. |

oyaskii:Yeah I know all Best Lists will always be subjective. But this one got to be the most shocking. How is Past Lives topping that list with the amount of really top tier movies in it?? The movie is really good but being at the very top of the caliber of the top 30 movies listed is more or less a Blasphemy to me. E sure me say na all these Gen Z new age filmmakers and industry insiders na dem give am that vote. MODIFIED: Lmao..... Na now I just go back to it and realised it's PARASITE I've been mistaking for Past Lives since. 😭😂😭 Omo..... I no complain again. |

abduleez1:Just saw the phoenician scheme by wes Anderson. The grand budapest Hotel is also his doing. When I first watched that movie I really enjoyed it. The style was unique and the characters had real depth. The guy is quite good though the phoenician scheme was a bit on the dry side. Still enjoyable though. P.s I've seen 20 of those movies. 8 make my cut for rewatchable. I saw inglorious bastards and no country for old men recently. I must check out there will be blood. |

armadeo:I wanted to ask why no one was talking about The Phoenician Scheme. Grand Budapest Hotel has been on my watchlist for years now. I don't understand what's so good about No Country For Old Men. It's a good movie but the hype most people have for that movie still confounds me especially it being a Best Picture winner. 🙃🙄 |

Damn..... The perfect casting for Circe. Since Anya Chalotra is Circé in DCU, I don't mind Charlize being Hecate. Pls Nolan, make it R rated and you'd be my GOAT. 🙏🏽

abduleez1:Omo you see the budget? If that movie no make at least $900m, na flop e be o. With $155m on it's first weekend, and Jurassic Park releasing next weekend, I don't see it hitting $900m globally. |
| Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by abduleez1(m): 5:33pm On Jun 29, 2025 |
phr0nesis:Lol, I'm hearing the $300mn budget is wildly inflated. But Variety/Deadline put the budget at around $200mn. The movie is Apple TV's so WB is just distributing, either way WB is making a profit. That's a very positive and great box office for Apple TV. You'd think it's a failure in strictly technical terms of movie production, but for Apple TV it's quite different. Apple TV is owned by a $3 trillion tech company not a traditional production studio. Apple TV is also run as a streamer so any money they get from theatrical release is more or less extra money for them, or basically a project paying for itself. It's essentially geared to bring subscribers to the service while promoting the streamer to traditional movie audiences. If that movie goes to earn $450mn at the box office which I think it would surpass then it's a massive success, especially for Apple TV. They've had back to back massive flops that failed to resonate with audiences in KILLERS OF THE FLOWER MOON ($151mn BO) and Ridley Scott's NAPOLEON ($221mn BO). These movies earned way less and couldn't cover their budgets. This one is going to cover the overall gross of these two movies in probably 2 weeks. That's a massive positive bruv. Look at it like Netflix releasing a $200mn film in theatres for 3-4 weeks. It's a win-win for them either way. Also note that with this movie releasing in theatres they can access secondary revenue streams associated with theatricals — like DVD sales or digital PVOD & rentals before it gets to regular Apple TV plus subscribers. They're not a traditional studio so old Hollywood financial structure doesn't really apply to them. Apple TV are planning to stop releasing movies theatrically and focus more on the streamer but this movie might just make them change their mind or make exceptions for some films and directors. I always wonder what's the point of making a $150-200mn movie only to dump it in a streaming service. It's actually stüpid to me. Release it in cinemas and any money it makes you can take it as a bonus. Also with the strong fact backed by hard data that all films released theatrically ALWAYS does better than movies released straight to VOD. That's more audience awareness for your movie as well as potentially more subscribers coming in to a fresh-faced streamer. |

Mulholland Drive.......8/10 What's with David Lynch's weird style of storytelling? Why is this dude obsessed with dream sequences and ambiguous storytelling. This is one of the most ambiguous movie I've ever watched seducing me into the story and confusing me once more throughout, even until the end where I began piecing everything together. It's a pretty slow burn and everyone might not be patient with it. I was beginning to get annoyed after 1hr of watch time and I'm yet to understand what the whole story was about. Even slept off yesterday night after an hour. Things really begin to kick off from around 1hr25min or so. And then it began a wild ride or what's real and imaginary. It's a brutal take on living the Hollywood dream. Wanting to be a successful actor or actress. Get auditioned. Wow the filmmakers. Get the role. Kill it. And then begin an accomplished career of stardom and success. It is always sweet dreaming this shït up but reality sets in about the brutal nature of the industry. I was already cussing the director midway into the film cos I was losing my patience and really needed to get to the juicy part. You might still not understand the movie even after watching the whole thing trying to figure out what was dreamed up or what was reality. But once you fully understand the film you'd begin to appreciate it's story or the whole point to it. It's a brilliant take albeit a weird and overly ambiguous one. David Lynch's love for sound score driving his movie is cool but his style of sound design isn't one I'm keen on. I don't really like his sound choices and I just knew I was watching a David Lynch production just by the sound after watching that his atrocious EraserHead movie. 😭😭 I also mostly don't like how some scenes very noticeably in the first 45mins or so where some sounds where higher than normal and some were lower than normal in many instances. It was kinda distracting having to adjust my volume most times. Top top film, overall. Great acting from the cast....darn beautiful women with a decent dose of pristine nüdity and bööbs. Great film....reminds me of VERTIGO and how films of that era (20th century) were made. Old school directing with mature themes and serious topics, no frills attached and without the nowadays focus on agendas. |

phr0nesis:According to Wikipedia, the reported budget of the film is $225 million. However, the producers and director claim that the budget is just tens of millions short of $300 million, while other sources estimate it to be around $250 million. If we take the $250 million figure as accurate, the film would need to gross approximately $700 to $750 million at the box office to break even, based on box office earnings alone. If the film fails to reach this threshold, it would be considered a 'box office flop.' I think this is the point you're trying to make. However, it's important to note that a film can still generate significant revenue through other channels, such as streaming services, paid digital releases, home entertainment (DVD/Blu-ray), TV and cable syndication, merchandising, licensing, and theme park tie-ins. For instance, companies like Disney have managed to recover or even profit from films that initially flopped at the box office, like John Carter. That said, digital revenue remains somewhat opaque so the exact figures for how much a film makes through these channels are rarely disclosed to the public. |

Here's the full list for those curious of the TOP 100 21st Century movies: I've watched 38/100..... 😭😭 Basically that's about 38 movies I've watched so far in a possible 76 I would have watched. More Chris Nolan movies gets in but farther down the list in the top 100: Memento, Inception, Oppenheimer, Interstellar.

abduleez1:The list is truly ass. I watched Mulholland Drive and it's probably one of the strangest and the weirdest movie I've watched this year - I had to watch YouTube movie to understand the movie. Not even in my top 500. But parasite is no 1 and I can understand that |

Illusioneffect:I don't know why people speak very highly of David Lynch... I know it's cos of Mulholland Drive and the Twin Peaks series and a handful of other projects. The two of his works I've watched, the man is a true confusionist with his ambiguous storytelling style and surrealism. I watched EraserHead and that movie really vexed me. ![]() On the Hollywood list from New York times it's a very Arguable list. Notable omissions: Marriage Story All Quiet On The Western From The Curious Case of Benjamin Button Quills The Aviator The Handmaiden The Wailing The Irishman Mank The Death of Stalin Dunkirk Dune The Batman Joker Midsommar |
