Education isn't celebrated in Nigeria. Most of the senators in Nigeria presently doesn't have degree not to talk of having PhDs in their various discipline. |

Are you trying to say the initial 5 million jobs were not created? Or they were created and we need an additional 5 million jobs again? Or HAS APC AND ITS AGENTS BEEN TAKING YHE ENTIRE YOUTHS IN THIS COUNTRY ON A MERRY GO ROUND? 😏 |

When you get to your university gate, you will see the motto of your university. They always talk about knowledge and skills, and never about getting jobs. So, we go to school to acquire knowledge and skills that will help us understand and question the world around us and solve its problems. While the university doesn't expect you to put that knowledge into bad practice (that's why they find you worthy in character and learning), what you do with it is totally up to you. In summary, nobody promised you that you would get a job after going to school because getting a job isn't the essence of going to school in the first place. |

Crowd mentality, follow follow syndrome. It's better to learn a skill. |

I agree...she wasted money going to school. All the years and yet didn't learn the purpose of going to school .... still thinking the purpose of going to school is to get a job. There are manyyyy more with this same mentality... the ones who graduate from university and be walking the streets jobless complaining that there are no jobs ...school is a scam. These are the people that will never think of using their education to create their own job ...to earn a living using what they learned over the years. ... walking the streets with a head full of information but no knowledge. Educated fools everywhere |

To be sincere with you, this lady is right here. How could you study for 4,5,6 years courses without getting any job. It's unfortunate seriously. Nigeria unemployment rate keep rising by the day. What is the fg, state and the private sectors doing to cover the huge gap of unemployment in our country Nigeria. |

Back in those days, it was a shameful thing for a graduate to be doing small scale business. If a graduate isn't working in a bank, telecom sector or an oil company, your education is a waste. Right now, that has changed. The situation of the country has turned everyone to hustler. No one cares if you're a university graduate or not. Hustle is the main goal |

Because u were lied to that school is just to be employed but in reality it's never. Generally speaking,if ur education can't take u out of poverty,u are a failure just accept it. U wasted ur education because,if Nwaboi as it is fondly called in Igbo land, can get out of poverty within years after serving one oga...then u should understand what I am saying. |

The essence of going to school is to acquire knowledge, because knowledge is POWER. The problem with Nigeria is that schools don't provide knowledge, they will only give you certificate. But what really gets you a job and sustains the job for you is your knowledge, not your certificate. |

SmartPolician:Vawulence....and very sensible reply. An average Nigerian will stone you for this. Yet, it's the truth! However, she's still technically right in the sense that, does the education Nigeria gives her youth actually provide knowledge and/or skill? ![]() |

When I graduated I intentionally closed my ears to the people saying there were no jobs. Maybe there truly was not enough jobs for the millions of graduates, but I only needed one and I was sure there was at least one for me. I got it very quickly after without having to rely on "connections" |

Truths9ja:Depends on how you define "job" Was speaking with someone who was working in their family shop When I casually asked her what course she read in school, she immediately retorted: "Sir, do you want to give me work?" Was taken aback, as that shop - by my estimation from the daily foot traffic - generates a sizeable steady revenue DAILY But no. To her, she feels she is not "working" Until maybe she is in some office, playing Zuma on the office desktop... |

You don’t go to school to look for jobs, go there with the mindset of creating jobs. A graduate has no business being jobless. Use your education to think of what to do. Even if it’s in the informal sector, you education should make you do it better. |

The essence of your education is navigate and sustain life on the planet. You’re born with very limited skills and knowledge. You acquire more from learning and experience. Formal education helps you understand life much better. It starts with general education, about the planet, the world you live in, the way things work, what others have discovered and created along the line, then it advances to specialized education. Specialized education is what she questions. Like, why specialize in Biochemistry if you can’t get a job with it? Valid question, but if you can’t get a job in biochemistry, haven’t you learned enough to do something else? |

There are few job opportunities in Nigeria right now, but there are so many opportunities outside the shores of the country especially if you read the most in demand courses like in the technology and social marketing fields. |

Good but bad question at the same time. You don't go to school solely to get a job. You go to school to acquire knowledge, learn social skills and get more enlightened and exposed. These skills will equip you for a promising future. And you are supposed to apply the academic knowledge and sometimes practical skills gained in school in spotting opportunities that will enable you to startup something on your own that will employ others and create jobs. So if you graduate and cannot find a job, apply the knowledge and skills you acquired from school to create business that will solve people's daily problems and in the process you earn money from it. With time, it will become a company that hire others and create jobs. School also help you build network, I mean genuine network of like minds. Through school, I built a solid network of valuable friends that have contributed immensely to my growth as a person, and I have also contributed immensely to their own growths in life. Some people met their life partners in school. Some meet their business partners in school. Mark Zuckerberg the founder of Facebook met his Facebook business partners in school. Founders of Jumia met each other in school. A lot of popular brands and companies you know today, the owners or founders met each other in school. School is great place to build network, not just undergraduate schools, even graduate schools, I am a living witness. Some meet their best friends in school. School is not only to prepare you for job or employment, it prepares you for a better life through exposure and academic knowledge plus skills |
