Born in June 1925, Igwe Kenneth Orizu is the King of Nnewi, and is 100 years old. He is also the longest serving monarch in Igbo land, he has been King of Nnewi for 62 years. He ascended the throne of Anaedo on the death of his father, Igwe Josiah Nnaji Orizu, in 1963. The reign of Igwe Orizu has seen Nnewi turn from a village into the centre of the Nigerian automotive industry

In the 60's he led an effort to clear an evil forest in Nnewi known as the Agbedo forest. Under his reign, the Agbedo forest was cleared. Before then, no one dared enter the forest because it was believed that anyone who dared would die.

When the decision to clear the forest was taken and the date was fixed, no one dared to enter the forest because of the fear death or the unknown. Even when he gave his approval to get on with the job, everyone was afraid to be the first to start clearing the forest.

But when the lion-hearted monarch got there, he started the clearing first after praying, before they took over from him.

Today, the largest automotive and spare parts market in West Africa sits on that land
