Mat 6.16-18 16 “When you fast, don’t make yourselves look sad like the hypocrites. They put a look of suffering on their faces so that people will see they are fasting. The truth is, that’s all the reward they will get. 17 So when you fast, wash your face and make yourself look nice. 18 Then no one will know you are fasting, except your Father, who is with you even in private. He can see what is done in private, and he will reward you. Now when Muslims fast, they announce it to the whole world. The whole community must know Muslims are fasting. Not only do they engage in loud fasting, they force those who are not interested in their fasting to go on hunger strike just because Muslims dont want anybody to eat during the period of fasting. In muslims dominated society, restaurant are shut down during their fasting, non muslims are not even allowed to cook or eat in public during ramadan. Doing so could earn u some punishment even when u do not profess the Islamic faith. They suspend physical activities during fasting and wear long faces so everybody can know they fast.
