In case you are not aware some of the people you went to school with are the people who will create the jobs....You can also be part of those people...The jobs you are searching for was also created by some one...

We only go to school these days not because there is a promise of job after graduation but to avoid discrimination and to avoid being caught unaware in case a job offer needing education presents itself . That's just it

She is brave for asking this question that a lot of people would not dare to ask because they just wanna do what others are doing. Education in Nigeria right now is a waste of time.Nobody cares about your education,cos some of our law makers and politicians aren't educated. The most important thing right now is just have money.Nobody cares how you are gonna make that money but sha have money. I can't even advise anyone to attend any tertiary institution. Once you are done with secondary school,you are good to go.

Certain people on this thread are trying to overly smart. Stop trying to be too academic and accept the reality. People go to school so they can get a job. If you don't have any helper to start a venture, immediately you're done with school nobody will ask about your welfare anymore.

Can a hungry man start a venture or learn a skill? You'll be left with option of doing menial jobs to survive and being creative in that situation is not easy.

The best option is to start learning a high paying skill from your 100 level but some people are also struggling doing menial jobs that they can't concentrate on learning a skill.

we go to school to learn the crucked ways of life.
just to know to manipulate the existing law.
and go away with it by getting a good lawyer.

future laborers as how? Can you explain further here. People want to learn. In America, government in America provide huge jobs for those that graduates in Tertiary institutions. Even foreigners got enough jobs and their pay per week is fantastically ok. In Nigeria, it's the reverse the case here. Millions of youths are unemployed.

Change your perception, that's all I can say.

The number one goal of going to school is to become a problem solver and not primarily to get a job. Education refines a man's ability to interact with his immediate and complex Environment but today that mission is almost been compromised because graduates today have become a burden to the society. Lets face the reality Nigeria's Labour market will keep getting saturated by the day as more graduates enters the labour market. But on the other side is enormous problems looking for people that will solve them and create wealth that is the reason I want the Government to prioritize Technical training and vocational studies. I am starting a program in my Institute of Tech that will see people in the informal sector that is people learning a skill in the roadside welder for instance getting a formal training and also certification. Also planning of running this as a partnership with different Government

my greatest regret in life is going to university instead of learning a profitable skills.

all my friends that haven't gone to school are doing better than me, here I am at 31years old still struggling to feed myself. here I am after spending 5years in school, I am competing with children in a construction site.

school is truly a scam in Nigeria

I did a master's in UK and got a bit exposed to the UK people. They didn't even do master's degree. Na we, Nigerians, Indians and others travel there to do master's degree. The locals are ok with Secondary school education. Highest, they take loan to go to university and pay back.
I still listen to their local radio stations online till date. They would typically advertise their University or higher education with statistics. They'll say, "You're likely to get a higher paying job if you go to this university".

That's all "Higher paying job"
The majority of the people already have jobs and they're ok with that. They don't need higher paying job.
At the end, higher paying job will attract higher TAX from your salary.
So what do you now gain?
Only to be speaking big English to people around who are not interested.

Education build you to face challenges and solve them when it arrives, If you don't have the education now, you won't be able the solve the challenges when it arrives.

The real matter was how parents defined education.

A carpenter in Nigeria is not educated and should not have a social status. That's a lie. Artisans are sort after world over and their class of education is exceptional.

Only lazy people still study useless social science courses till date.

I applied to study architecture the school gave me geography because I have D7 in physics. I studied it, now it has been 5years since I graduated I have never seen any job advert or vacancy for any geography graduate. now I am a labourer in a construction site after spending 4years in university. working with immigrants from Niger republic

oh what if that too. At least you are earning per day. What of the people that's not employed, no source to earn, no source to start business. There should be a bridging gap between the employed and unemployed youths in our society today. It's self employment now.
