Why exactly are we going to school in Nigeria? When we know after all the education there’s no job — Lady asks

You need to calculate the consequences of not having an education also. Education is not only in cerification but certification remains a good measure of education. That license is a certification also. You're not forced to a particular education or certification, choose carefully and increase your chances in life.

It's only in Naija that a graduate will go and learn work after graduation

givedemwotowoto:
The essence of your education is navigate and sustain life on the planet. You’re born with very limited skills and knowledge. You acquire more from learning and experience.

Formal education helps you understand life much better. It starts with general education, about the planet, the world you live in, the way things work, what others have discovered and created along the line, then it advances to specialized education.

Specialized education is what she questions. Like, why specialize in Biochemistry if you can’t get a job with it? Valid question, but if you can’t get a job in biochemistry, haven’t you learned enough to do something else?
what is the enough that a person who learnt biochemistry should do with it?

I pray she yield to your advice here. She's just speaking out of frustration niiii. Government should create a platform on the media space where there will be bridging the gap of employed and unemployed in the society.

which is not so in America. America government provide huge jobs opportunities for their graduates. Hardly will you see America graduates without been employed. But in Nigeria, it's different case entirely.

it’s sad sha.i know she’s chasing clout but she made some sense.spend 10m to acquire a degree for 4yrs,graduate and start driving keke or pos.
We've missed our road in Nigeria.
We're going to school only because oyibo people are going to school. But we have no f**ing idea what we're doing in school. That's why students are always misbehaving and wasting teachers' time there.
-
School education is meant to mold you to fit into a coorporate environment, to take orders and produce results.
-
But as you can clearly see, we have NO MORE corporations (offices) as the country has no factories producing anything that requires a coorporate body to manage.
So people are just wasting their time and money going to school to end up as nuisance, bitter angry, skillless and practically useless.
Tinubu and other BAD BOYS will just hijack the extraction of crude oil, sell it to white men, get Dollars and use that money to buy private jet, shoe and watch.
But all the whole graduates in the complete whole Nigeria cannot construct ONE refinery or any other production machine.
We have to always sit and wait for WHITE man or Chinese and Indian Man to come and create industries in our front and be KICKING us around like useless animals..

oh what if that too. At least you are earning per day. What of the people that's not employed, no source to earn, no source to start business. There should be a bridging gap between the employed and unemployed youths in our society today. It's self employment now.
self employment now needs some capital.keke sef I heard it’s over 3.5m.where poor man pikin want see 3.5m.The system is designed to kill us.

In UK, that's exactly what happens. Their locals are all learning work.
It is we Nigerians, Africans that are running there to fund their universities with our money as international students. International students pay 5 times what their own local UK students pay.
The money is so sweet for them that they have been coming to Nigeria come and advertise their UK universities. And we keep carrying our hard-earned naira to give them.
-
To their own locals, they only beg them that, "you are likely to get a better job if you get a degree". That's how their universities are advertised on their local radio stations. I listen to UK radio online. So I hear all the adverts.
Majority of the UK people are either learning work or collecting unemployment benefit from their government.

Na we Africans carry college education for head pass. Some are using it as japa route sha to leave this hell hole. If the country is truly functioning, you would not need college certificate before you get a job. Do you know that people got big jobs with their ssce way back 20years ago in this country. The country is in a terrible state right now. Even a PhD certificate does not guarantee you a job.

What are the subjects in social marketing?

Or what does social marketing entails or contain?
dsenator:
There are few job opportunities in Nigeria right now, but there are so many opportunities outside the shores of the country especially if you read the most in demand courses like in the technology and social marketing fields.

Nigerians failed to interpret "Education yo their usefulness and environmental productivity" what is education without reasonable skills ? What is the value of education where you can't practice 2hat you have leant than to depend on white-collar job? Where is education in a society where politicians and Yahoo Guys become a bread winners? Nigerians are the problem of the country we call Nigeria. Education is never a way to make wealth but a way to acquire knowledge that will be useful for everyone life endeavours .
Pls the lady is not saying graduates must be employed, but even the requisite atmosphere to utilise your skill is absent. And that is why she says "Nigeria" . She never said education globally is useless.

yes. Except someone received mercy from Great brothers and friends that may help someone out on that. Paying installments for keke now goes for 5m plus. Government failed the youths. There should be a bank that one can access a loan for capital to do business or get the capital of the keke easily.

I applied to study architecture the school gave me geography because I have D7 in physics. I studied it, now it has been 5years since I graduated I have never seen any job advert or vacancy for any geography graduate. now I am a labourer in a construction site after spending 4years in university. working with immigrants from Niger republic
Very sad my dear brother. But I can assure you that it's a beautiful beginning if you are willing to pick up and learn one more skill in addition to the one you have.

Try using you phone to learn Data science or data analysis. You can also learn networking and apply to write the Cisco compTia A license exams... it's easy.

If you're interested I can load you the links where you'll learn for almost free. Don't forget, you need to pay a token to make you skill valid. But it is as costly as nothing. And don't look for jobs related to your discipline.

it is always miracle when you escape from poverty. It's not funny at all. It's still the fault from the government. It's better one has huge investment as a young man/woman before venturing to study in Tertiary schools. Imagine private teachers been paid 30k per month. Some teachers won't even receive their salary on time. Like someone will say, Nigeria is the physical hellfire of the world.

especially in Nigeria. In America, it's not so. People gone to school, impact much knowledge to what they learn in school and still be employed in one company or the other. Nigeria system is been designed to create huge unemployment in the labour market.

Education is not the problem, the problem is thinking education automatically means employment......THIS IS A HUUUUUUUGE FALLACY! For 9ja, you must be able to wear many hats, the jobs are very limited so you must not only be a candidate but a problem solver. The search for a job begins while in school, develop those skills outside of the textbook, develop your brand, have a strong linkedin profile and gain experience through internship or something similar.

Be honest with yourself, how many of the theories wey dem teach you for class is actually applicable to the current 9ja job market......VERY VERY LOW! Na mouth most of una get, to show workings be like juju.......E.g Computer science graduate that can't analyze simple database queries in SQL, no be failure be that?

my greatest regret in life is going to university instead of learning a profitable skills.

all my friends that haven't gone to school are doing better than me, here I am at 31years old still struggling to feed myself. here I am after spending 5years in school, I am competing with children in a construction site.

school is truly a scam in Nigeria
My brother, in 5 or 10 years time, you will be better than your friends. smiley

Those Pple who are Carpenters, tilers, electricians, etc
Can they continue till the age of 50,60. huh

But a Man with Certificate can just get a Job paying 1million monthly and he will be settled for life. smiley

No Certificate is a Waste!

We just need GRACE and Favour! smiley

The question now is that how many people that learnt a skill are making it big or doing well. If our government really want to make this country work, they should focus in creating stable and cheap electricity, with this 50% of our problem is solved

exactly, everything is risky, even the keke driving is very risky and not to talk of otger jobs. Nigeria is never designed to be employable. Funny enough, the so called lecturer's aren't helping matters too. They refused to tell the students the blunt truths.
