So I’ve been thinking about how phone prices have gone through the roof lately. You see devices crossing 700–900k easily, sometimes even crossing 1 million.

Some people say it’s worth it for the cameras, processors, and premium feel, while others feel it’s smarter to buy something midrange and upgrade more often.

Personally, I’m somewhere in the middle. I’ve used some midrange phones that surprised me, brands like realme, Xiaomi and Tecno models under 300k deliver smooth performance, decent gaming, and optimal battery life. For example, the recent realme phones with 5000+mAh batteries and IP ratings are basically offering features that used to be exclusive to flagships a few years ago. At the same time though, there’s something about the smoothness of flagship devices you can’t deny.

So I’m curious, Do you think spending over 500k on a phone is worth it in 2025?
-Do flagship phones really last longer, or is it mostly hype?

-Are midrange devices now “good enough” for most people especially with brands pushing specs higher every year?

-Would you rather buy a cheaper phone and invest the rest elsewhere?

-What features would actually justify a 500k+ price tag for you personally?

True, flagship phones do have that extra smoothness and sometimes the cameras are just on another level. But I’ve seen some midrange options, getting surprisingly close in day to day use.
If a phone under 300k can do 90% of what you need, it’s hard to justify spending almost a million.

Your purpose and your pocket should determine your purchase.

Some people will save and save and save and live peasant lifestyle with millions in the bank till dey kpai and most cases none of their family has any idea they have money in the bank, you're just enriching the banks

If you have the money enjoy the good things of life and use the latest cars, gadgets. Bottom line satisfy all your desires
Except you're part of the 5% of humans on earth that has zero interest in the good things of life

Then save the rest

Low budget phones are for people with a total networth under a million

You can't carry money into the grave

the amount is not the issue to some people. It is the Functionality. People that buy phones out of the cost, are only doing it to impress people and to meet up to standards


I once used a Tecno Camon 11 pro, the screen display beat my Samsung that year and it very fast.

What annoys me is not the cost of the phone. What annoys me is those who under utilize phones. Whether it's Blackberry Bold, Thuraya, iPhone or Samsung.

Back in the days, a lot of people bought Blackberry only for pinging. They just wanted to feel among. Today, some are buying iPhone for FaceTime. It's their money, let them do whatever they want with it.

Just know that your worth should not be determined by a gadget.

I one can afford it I see no reason to not purchase. Another man's meat is another man's poison. If you can afford it but see it as a waste of time Niko abeg leave it to the rest of us .

It depends on what you are using it for. If it is just to surf, chat, etc., then it may be an overkill. If you are a content creator or a gamer who streams, or someone who needs the camera to help your business, or someone who needs it to elevate your status for contracts, etc., so that your chances of getting them are higher, why not?

Anyway, all we are saying is a poor man pikin talk, so let us criticise in our 'brokeness'.

If you have the money and won't break the bank, why not. It's worth it to feel the next tech.

Although as a person, I love simplicity. That is why I miss the Lumia days, etc., but then, I love spending such amount and higher on good laptops than on phones.

Laptops bring in the money; phones don't for me. So, it can feel like a waste of resources unless you are a programmer who wants to know how your apps run on these high-ends. Or you need badass camera to sell more of your products: thirst traps and commodity goods alike.

Whichever way: When money talks, nobody checks grammar.

The rule: If you can't buy it twice, you can't afford it.

A close friend of mine just spent 2.3million on Samsung this year. If you can afford it without back-thinking go ahead.

You can buy a phone at any amount you feel offers the value you can afford.
I like Samsung more than iPhone but I wouldn't say "no" to having both when it's time

I dont want to believe you are one those people who must flaunt your enjoyment.

Its difficult to enjoy anything in Nigeria. There's only foodshops everywhere but look around and create a tennis club ,golf,running ,book club.

These are all ways of enjoying yourself.

It's not worth using 90% of your resources to buy a phone that you are not using to increase your business. Some even use 100% of their resources to buy an iPhone, i can never subscribe to that.

But if you have a good cash flow, you can buy any device of your choice and enjoy it to the fullest.

Why do we always try to impress others with our gadgets? Can't we just enjoy technology for what it is, without the pressure to spend extravagantly? 🤔

Anyone that has the money to buy a phone of such amount or even of more cost, should go for it. Enjoy your life while u still can!

Phone I’m planning to get is 989K. Make una remain in poverty. I can afford it. I can afford it two times over. I will purchase it.

With the current stage and how technology is moving, realme devices can't really stand side by side with Samsung and iPhone but we really hope they can improve too, like if they can also bring their high range devices here in Nigeria
