Man laments as engineering professors fail to fix faulty faculty generator in his department.

"I was in this faculty some time ago, when the faculty generator had issues, none of the professors of engineering could fix it. They had to look for – my question is why is why is it a faculty of engineering if the diesel power plant had problems and it could not be fixed?" – A Nigerian youth stirs reactions after sharing a surprising experience at his university’s faculty of engineering.

Nawaoooo. What is the essence of studying machines and its functions in the school then.

..this is the geographical expression..where those who claim to have ruled the country more often than others.. grin grin

..if you bring it to their attention.. they will tell you that Azikiwe destroyed Nigeria by not agreeing to the secession clause.. grin cheesy

..they have been in power..fröm the North...from the West..many number of times...but see where the expression Nigeria is today..

..they claim to be the most educated, sophisticated..& have the most IGR..but professors can never fix a Mikano generator..

grin grin

it's very bad and unfortunate situation in our tertiary institutions. Na to read and pass.

That happens when your brain is loaded with theories...

Our curriculum needs to be overhauled, that's Nigeria 🇳🇬 need a change of govt.

Even ekiti state with the highest amount of professors in the country (according to RoNu members) could not fix their diesel generator smirk 😏

Meanwhile rag-tag Igbos refined petrol and created ogbunigwe from scratch amidst a 3 year war zone cool

Give credit to whom it's due jor wink
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by Pythagoras001: 12:36pm On Jul 02, 2025
Their are people trained for fixing generators and that is not a part of a university professor job description whose primary job is research , teaching and comunity service. while a professor of mechanical engineering understands how the generator works and could also design one. fixing a particular generator even if he wants to do it himself would take considerable time as he may have no working tools for the task and have no experience with the design of the current generator.
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by Zionmdde: 12:37pm On Jul 02, 2025
Only the ignorant cannot differentiate between an engineer and a technician
An engineer translates the theories into designs and models which are actualized by the technicians under the directions and supervision of the engineer

So a mechanical engineer has no business repairing a generator. Not in Nigeria, not even in Germany. He can only give an idea of what is wrong with the generator and not to repair it
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by mrvitalis(m): 12:37pm On Jul 02, 2025
The ignorance in this statement and the comments above collaborating it is beyond shocking

What concerns a prof of engineering from fixing generator?

Nigerians needs to know the difference between "Engineers- Technologist-technicians and craftsmen "

Generator being bad is not an engineering problem... Certainly not
But if that model of generator keep having unforeseen problems over and over again then that's an engineering problem

Engineering is 100% office work, you design, you solve problems, you innovate

Moreover no one can be a professor of engineering... U want to die? ... You can't even be a professor of mechanical or electrical engineering

You become professor of thermodynamics, professor of mechanics, professor of power systems, professor of material metrology

Our educational system is bad really bad and the guy in the video shows it

So you think practicals are superior to theories? Mehn we are doomed in this country

Any idiot can do practical... Intact and robots can be programed do repairs

Lmaooo do you guys even know what goes into designing a bolt? ... Just a bolt or shaft?
So you even know what goes into treatment of materials to achieve desired properties?

That's even done with limitations in space and cost... Lmao

Why do you guys think it take care 15 years to change engine design for cars even with that the new one is designed as an improvement of the old not just afresh

Just because you loosed something and replaced parts you think you are better than someone who use calculus to solve problems

Designing clearance alone for he piston cylinder system, the injection valve system, the stress analysis with head and temperatures control Lmaooo

You go market buy parts lose and replace then you think u are doing good Lmaooo

You can't even defend the design of a bolt before an engineer ...

Engineering is theory and problems solving... Google is your friend... If you want practical go and learn craftsman job

PROFESSORS OF MECHANICAL ENGINEERING WITH THEIR DIFFICULT COURSES

- THEORY OF MACHINES
- ADVANCED THERMO DYNAMICS-
- MACHINE DRAWING
- ADVANCED ENGINEERING MATHEMATICS.

- ADVANCED KPEKUS

NONSENSE.
NOW, GENERATOR HAS KNOCK, NOBODY TO FIX IT

They'll call themselves theoretical Engineers and not on-field engineers. Clowns😂😂

I don’t understand this road side illiterate point of view

Does Professor of engineering means he should be able to repair every mechanical device?

People should please update their brains, this is 2025.
Who even said engineers are those that fix broken machine parts?
There’s a reason a mechanic is different from a professor of mechanical engineering.

There’s a reason a software engineer is working in Microsoft while a computer repairer is in computer village…
A software engineer cannot repair a phone… they are not repairing phones and computers in Microsoft or Apple. They are doing highly skilled and professional jobs not technicians

Nigerian Engineers are pen pushers, they re desk clerks. They wear tie and suit and only know how to count money ,sign cheques and sleep with 4 legs.

Why do you think our government hires technicians from India and Philippine?

I have seen professors of Engineering who cant even change a light bulb. Its just paper qualification if you have 1m you can get it from any Nigerian university.
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by lebienconnu(m): 1:54pm On Jul 02, 2025
People just choose to lament for no sane reason. An engineering professor is not trained to fix generators but to design one like someone rightly said above. Round peg can not fit square hole. Even in Japan, China, Uk and US, engineering professors take their vehicles to trained technicians when required. Why is Nigeria different? This is a matter of actively looking for something negative to say even when there appears to be none. Let me tell you, those proffessors you are mocking are among the very best in the world. Baba, if you know, you know. You can not be professor without knowing your onions. It is not possible.
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by Arostar2023: 1:56pm On Jul 02, 2025
You are obviously ignorant of how school works! I guess this is because in Nigeria certificate and degrees are everything.

Being a professor doesn't automatically make you a technician. The curriculum and requirements to be a technician is different from that of a professor (any engineering degree holder). And you know what, those who design stuff are much more desired (and rewarded) than those who fix broken things.

You'd better stop the trash coming out from your mouth. A professor can't fix generator but can design. ... is the statement right? if he can't fix at least he must have an idea of the fault...

My former Boss turned diver was a mechanical engineer trained in Germany, Who love old heavy diesel patrol vehicles, his mechanic couldn’t fix the last one he got and this man started telling the mechanic what to do, boom within 2hrs the vehicle started working , no university faculty of engineering does that in Nigeria
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by datola: 1:57pm On Jul 02, 2025
How can you expect professors to be fixing generator. That is the work of a technician.. note even engineer's
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by Safyqueen: 1:58pm On Jul 02, 2025
That's not the work of a university professor.
In technical field those designed to handle practical work are called technicians. Those below them to manufacturer the tools used by them are called craftsmen. Those above them are called technologist before the engineers at the top.
No need to further elucidate on these.
Re: Man Laments As Engineering Professors Fail To Fix Faulty Generator In His Dept by Dogalmighty17: 1:58pm On Jul 02, 2025
This man is an ignorant goof. That someone is an engineer doesn't necessarily mean he knows how to fix machines. Engineering is a whole complex of different strata and categories.

This is a very wise take on issues. Our education is simply certification. Nigerians will never know Jack going by our educational system

Atoh! Now you know why Nigeria youths always say school na scarm, Nigeria Education system is dead already, corruption killed it, students don't read their books any more more, all they do is offer teachers money in exchange for good results, you can imagine a student celebrating after writing an exam even when he haven't seen the result yet
