ceejayluv:Okay but a friend of mine was posted to Automotive plant overthere , they do have visiting professors that work with them to develop and implement the outcome of their researchs for new technologies innovations, how many of our engineering Professors are doing that here ? |

CodeTemplarr:I had my MSc there in Electrical Power Systems years back.... So as at then was: Agric, Petro, EE, Mech & Industrial. |

FutureFocus:My dear friend, you still don't get it. You think professors just wake up , rub their bottoms and scientific knowledge flow out? You don't that there are processes they must go through which may require huge investment in money, time and other resources. Professors are not technicians, this applies all over the world. And the scientists you were talking about, who told you that they were out in the field with spanners and hammers building the nuclear reactors in Iran or in any other place? I mentioned earlier that our educational sector, like every other sector in Nigeria has issues...but that isn't because you have professors that can't fix broken down generators. Moreover, different field of studies require different approaches. What's required in theoretical physics differs from what's required in mechanical engineering and medicine. Do you know how much the people you are using as an example spend on researches and education? How much do you pay your professors that you are expecting something extraordinary from them? Go and check the amount budgeted for education in Nigeria for 2025 and check that of Harvard university alone. Check and tell us what you discovered? |

Offpoint1:Firstly it's impossible for an engineer to design one machine in 35 years of service You only design parts or machine in teams and surely we have done a lot of designs Equsi or melon peeling machine was innovated by Nigerians there are more |

Nukilia:I schooled in the SE. I was trying to point out to him how ignoble his comment was. Truth is that some of the professors may not want to do it because the school has budgeted for repairs and services. |

If those making all these lame arguments are actually graduates of our universities, then wahala seriously dey oO. |

FutureFocus:That's the difference in industrialization between the two countries. Nigeria, generally has a Long Way to Go in that aspect. Although we have many seasoned professors in Nigeria that have had international research collaborations. |

erniok:The strategic plan for reviving the education sector in Nigeria, must see Engineering departments in universities headed by professors bidding for road project construction, optic fibre laying, agriculture related projects e.t.c |

Bahamas95:Na so it be...a trained monkey can repair broken things. But no monkey can design a complex machine. That's the same reason your president earn more than his bodyguards that are putting their lives in the line to protect him. |

On another note, the original poster sounded like he witnessed ALL the professors struggling to fix the generator with no avail. Dude was called to do his Job of which there's a budget for maintenance, only to come out to talk trash. |

Arostar2023:You are advocating for more grants, I know we have PDTF, TeTfund and some independent international grants, focused on individual gurus, still these universities are making a lot of money from various part time programs , some lectures in two or more universities on the side dictating notes only , for more money, Some are more focused on printing businesses while other pay attention to their farms , The OP has raised a valid alarm 🚨, our education system should be revisited As it stand for now, I rather school myself on YouTube I know the government need to do better also |

Fixing is not a role of an Engineer. That's the role of a Technologist or a Technician. An Engineer Analyse, troubleshoot, monitor, model, simulate and design processes. While the Technologists and Technicians bring the design to life following the instructions of the Engineer. |

ceejayluv:Yeah, we also have leadership problems, we are buying Prado SUVs instead of Tractors and Fishing Vessels No harmony between education system and the real economy, look at the universities of agriculture all over the place, good template zero implementation ! is the ministry of Agriculture empowering the graduates from these universities of agriculture? Build farm villages and settlements in collaboration with ministry of housing , provide adequate security and establish farm cities to engage these graduates from these universities of agriculture instead of them working in the banks as clerks |

mrvitalis:So mention one thing the Professors have designed that solved problems in Nigeria? What? We may agree with you to an extent but the problems is that those with certificates started this. When you look down at others just because you have a Bsc or Masters of PHD, this is what happens In the western civilized world, all skills are respected and those who engage in them earns well but here in Nigeria, we look down on people Nurses are not valued here but over there, there are hot cakes |

This is ignorance on the part of the young man. Does he know different companies have different designs but all working on the same principles? A Toyota mechanic may not be able to fix a Mercedes benz engine without training. Learn the difference between the different cadres of engineering please and stop exposing your ignorance. |

The guy in the video needs to fix his shirt and the designs on it, as well as his sense of aesthetics before even complaining about his professors. |

Engineering profession is divided into 4 cadres (in Nigeria) 1 Engineers: they are mainly trained to design and analyse 2 Technologists 3 Technician 4 Artisans |

Love800:In a lay man understanding: The Technologist carries out the real job. They are the ones that soil their hands, while the Engineer stands there giving orders and instructions of "do it like this". "Do it like that". That's the difference. |

Zionmdde:How did he comes with the idea of what is wrong with the generator if he can't fix it? Home could he direct and supervise technicians if he can fix or know how to fix? From whom the technicians are expected to know how to fix? |
