Why the Coalition Against Tinubu Should Consider a Platform Other Than ADC

As the opposition coalition rallies to unseat President Bola Tinubu and challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), one critical factor demands strategic attention: political branding and voter clarity. While the African Democratic Congress (ADC) may appear to be a viable alternative due to its existing structure and national presence, its acronym poses a unique and potentially costly problem.

In a high-stakes election, especially one that could be decided by a narrow margin, clarity on the ballot is non-negotiable. The similarity between the acronyms APC and ADC is not just cosmetic, it is a logistical hazard. On a printed ballot paper, where many voters make quick decisions under pressure and where literacy levels vary widely, the two acronyms can easily be mistaken for one another. A misplaced thumbprint could invalidate a vote or worse, divert it to the opponent.

This risk of voter confusion could significantly undermine the efforts of any coalition using the ADC as its platform. Rather than presenting a clear alternative, it could dilute the opposition's impact, handing the APC an unearned advantage through simple misidentification.
