Good afternoon Nairalanders,

I was driving yesterday afternoon, when I was stopped by the police, they inspected my papers and noticed that I bought my car at a car stand "used" so they asked me for a document named "authority to sell" I was surprised because I haven't ever had of that before, even though this Is my 4th car. They then proceeded to ask me for agreement paper between the first owner and the previous owner that sold to me. Which I don't have, but I have every other documents from the immediate owner, and have none from the very first owner, except the motor receipt, that they used to buy the motor from car stand.

They took my car to the station, and demanded 400k, I pleaded with them for almost an hour until they accepted 80,000. They told me they need cash, I withdrew the money and gave them the cash.

When I got out of the station I confided with a friend and narrated everything to him as it happened and asked him for help In other to avoid such a scenario from happening again.

He told me that, the paper that I wrote and signed on the car stand before leaving with the car, on the day I bought the car "aggremenr paper" was what led them asking for the "authority to sell" paper. He told me that nevertheless, they have no business asking me for the agreement paper between the old, and immediate seller that sold to me and the other previous owner.

He then advised me to go and re_do another agreement paper, the ones they normally type with old type writer, and take it to who sold the car to me to sign, so that when next they see me they won't ask me for authority to sell, as my agreement papers won't indicate that I bought the car from a car stand "used" but it would seem like I bought the car directly from a regular user.

I did as he told me but I'm still worried, as they would still stop me to take more money from me in the future because I don't have the agreement paper between the immediate previous owner and the former owner that sold to him. They're always fond of asking for such, all my previous cars I have the aggrement papers of previous owners to current owners that sold to me, please I need advice on how to go about this agreement papers, I have gone to the car stand severely and they gave me the contact of whom they bought the vehicle from before selling to me, I called and he told me that he had traveled out, I need help please, help me.

Would an affidavit of "loss of agreement paper from who sold to me directly and the first user solve this issue? Please help I'm so worried.

Below is the 80,000 I withdrew and used in settling the police yest afternoon, I paid 2800 as charges to the POS girl.

You paid because you have the money, if you didn't have the money. I am sure you will find a way around it and that wouldn't have cost you 80k. Meanwhile, there is nothing like authority to sell. U self think am! Authority to sell document should be directed to the car stand dealership. In essence police suppose full all these car stands to they check authority to sell. You didn't sell, you bought. They didn't ask you authority to buy because you will catch them, so they confused you with authority to sell which was impossible to get. Thieves!!

Go back to the station without your car, meet one of the police and ask for D.C.O office. And lay your complaint, that money go fall out as long as you can recognize them. Just remember the check point then catch you and the time. They will figure th3 patrol team that was there. Good luck!!

You're so thoughtful, I never thought about this as that instant. Truly, I'm not supposed to be the one with the authority to sell, but the car stand. I never really thought of this, I swear. You're a genius, but unfortunately I'm too scared to go to the police to make this report, I wish I'm half the man or have half of the heart to do this. 😢


But boss, is it In anyway possible for me to do an affidavit for loss of agreement paper between the very first owner and the second owner whom sold directly to me? Would such affidavit hold?

Never heard of such papers? And are they to ask you such? They should only ask for prove of ownership and others not what you mean mentioned.
We have criminals in the police, if you dull them go use you. Report to the DPO and go with a lawyer.

You paid free money.

That is why you need to go back to that station and get your money back.

In all my life and day to day existence, and In my years of driving, like I stated earlier this is my 4th car, and I haven't heard of such papers ever before, I have been so devastated since yesterday.

That is why you need to go back to that station and get your money back.

I don't have the mind to get my money back, but I will look for a friend with such strong mind to go with me, I'm not certain yet because I'm scared, but I will try my very best.

Next time they will ask for agreement to drive your car.

Repeat wetin again?..Bro seems you were shivering and besides they have no right to ask you such question..The purpose of the paper is just for safety purposes between you and the seller and not police.

They were extremely serious, at first when they demanded that I handover my key, I refused but as they charged toward me, I gave them immediately. I really do not have much heart to stand my ground, I wish I do. It's just so unfortunate that all of these are happening right now.

Yes..A change of ownership is for your safety since it’s a 2nd hand car but the police have no right to arrest you..You can get your refund back if you take it up with them..Do you have a lawyer?if you do then take it up with him and you will get a refund and compensation.

It's illegal. Their biz is vehicle registration and license..if u get tint..tint permit. Any other questions na scam. Next time. On your phone and record them. Dem go beg u las las.

I have a change of ownership, I did it few minutes after paying for the car, what they're currently demanding for and using to extort me, is the previous change of ownership between the very first owner that used the car before selling to the the second owner "the change of ownership between the first and second owner" they claimed that my car has no past history that every history started directly from me.

I'm still driving it sir, I posted it for sale for Facebook market place and the least pricing I'm getting is 8m, a car that I bought 12m barely a month ago, it would be so extremely painful selling same car for 8m in less than a month.

If I should pin down, wind up and drove pass them, what about tomorrow boss, what if they got my plate number as soon as I did that? The odds are clearly against me. If they should come across me another day and manage to stop me, the consequences would be so devastating.

That's what a friend told me, but unfortunately it's what they've been using to debit recently, after going through the car papers and everything is correct, there's always something that they'd request in order to take advantage.

Boss, I can't record and allow them see me, the consequences would be out of this world, they might seize my phone or worst still land me lots of slaps before throwing me inside their van. I'm always calm when dealing with them, to avoid unforseen circumstances.

Op to avoid future extortions it is best you get a dash cam or eye glass that have camera/recorder. It will build your confidence so that no police will extort you and go free

You seem naive & not willing to depart from it. If this story isn't made up, you are an accessory to your problem.

First, you aren't supposed to have any other document in the vehicle other than the proof of ownership, vehicle license, insurance & every other document given to you when the car was registered.

You are one of those that embolden the police to continue to extort innocent motorists. Apparently, they prayed on your ignorance.

Even after the incident, you are still acting like a notice & behaving like a 7 year old kid.. you hold the key to you boldness & confidence. Fear only exists in the mind & until you are ready to conquer it, you will continue to wallow in ignorance. Mind you, no one has advised you to fight the police but just stand your ground & get a lawyer if they keep your car at the police station. It not only illegal but malicious & your lawyer can sue for damages.

Police surely know their boundary but will fleece any weak man like you.

You haven't heard of it because it doesn't exist.

From the way you type, you were probably visibly fidgeting when they stopped you. And those criminal officers noticed it.

That's why they manufactured a non existent offence and pinned on you. sadly, it worked.

You didn't mention the state this happened.

Don't bother, go about your business, next time they ask for such, make sure you raise your voice so they know you are not a novice. Boldly tell them that you know no such paper exists. They will leave you. Or ask them to stop another motorist and show you a sample of such a paper.

Don't forget that 99% of police officers are criminals.
