A chieftain of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, and a key member of the opposition coalition, Nasir El-Rufai, has said a new political party would be registered as a back-up for the African Democratic Congress, ADC.

El-Rufai said the new party would be registered as an alternative option to counter potential infiltration by the All Progressives Congress, APC, into the ADC.

The opposition coalition adopted the ADC as its platform on Wednesday.

However, El-Rufai said there is a tendency that the APC might instigate crisis within the ADC by inciting old members against the new leadership.

He disclosed this in an interview with Radio France International (RFI) Hausa Service on Wednesday night.

“Those who refuse to join the APC face threats of investigations by agencies like the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC), or Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB).

“The opposition parties’ alliance in the ADC is temporary, and we may register a new party as a second option, which we will move to should the ADC be instigated into crisis by the government,” the former Kaduna governor said.

This guy thinks most Nigerians are gullible. Perhaps they might be.

If you have not engaged in any sharp practice while holding public office, why should anyone be worried about being investigated by anti-graft agencies? If they invite you, go and clear your name and stop making excuses of political witch-hunt.

These are the agents of change? grin

Truly, Nigerians are exactly who these politicians see them to be.

You know why APC is jittery? Something unprecedented is happening. Nigerians will move en mass at a short notice to any new party to defeat the APC in 2027. Whether we like it or not, the OBIdient movement is the catalyst for this change. Any party that fields Obi as their candidate is guaranteed a minimum of 6 million votes. If after all the permutations and Obi becomes the coalition candidate, it is over for APC, period! OBIdients + Establishment politicians support will be more than APC can handle.

If the coalition picks Atiku and Obi decides to remain in the coalition, then it will be 50-50 chance for APC in 2027 depending on what Obidients decide to do. If Obidients grudgingly decide to support Atiku, the election will be over before 12noon.

The pdp and apc are still the two biggest party. They have the highest number of senator, reps, governors, executives and so on. They will be controlling the polling booth with their party agents.

The ADC is just disgruntled elements from both party forming an alliance not for the people but for them to also return to power.

There are two different perspective to this:

As at today in Nigeria, the APC is a strong political party asides from being the incumbent party. Perhaps, this move, albeit gigantic, avails the ruling party a generous room to go back to the drawing board and tackle this robustly- about 2 years to restrategise, plant moles in ADC, and identify salient allies and moves.

On the other hand, the coalition has a resemblance of the birth of APC, though with scanty “Real” political weight(clearly evinced by not capturing their territory during the last presidential election) that can only foment trouble if they remain impermeable and undone by their parochial & selfish interest, and work in perfect coalescence.

What does this really portend for an average rank and file in Nigeria?

A pure chequered honeymoon and reunion of petty and renowned thieves masquerading as the crusader of the panacea to Nigeria malady. Same people! Nothing really to be excited about except for a miniscule impact stemming from the pressure on the ruling party to step up and do more to pacify the already hapless and rattled citizenry who, if not careful, might be bitten twice. Only the unsuspecting sees this as a grand solution- its more of rescuing Nigeria from a seemingly “one-party” than a thirst to liberate the down-trodden.

All permutations and calculations have begun but it is just too early to accurately foretell where the pendulum swings- there would be glimmers of unprecedented betrayal, unfathomable collaborations, and undecided power tussle in the last few months.

In sum, it’s a shame that 2 years to election, the ambience is already rattled with 2027 electoral talks that diminishes the effective demand for quality governance from this government. It would appear that the attendant benefits of strong competition is completely non-existent as oppositions main aim is stopping Tinubu than liberation of the people. On a more hopeful thought, the best candidate to rule Nigeria might emerge if they decide to field the most appealing noblest candidate.

Just my thoughts!
