Enugu Air, an Enugu-state owned commercial airline is set to launch on Monday, July 7, 2025, a statement released by the state government on Thursday has revealed.

According to the state government, Enugu Air is part of Governor Peter Mbah Administration’s integrated blueprint for a modern, multimodal transport ecosystem and vision to make Enugu a major aviation hub.

In the statement signed by the Commisssioner for Transportation, Dr. Obi Ozor, the government said that the launch of Enugu Air would take place at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport with the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, as the Special Guest of Honour, among other dignitaries.

“Enugu Air will take off with an initial fleet of three Embraer aircraft, E170 and E190 series, selected for their efficiency, comfort, and adaptability to the regional market.

“The inaugural routes will establish a ‘golden triangle’ with Enugu at its core, connecting Abuja and Lagos and subsequently extending to Port Harcourt, Owerri, Benin, Kano, and other strategic cities across Nigeria and beyond.

“With a strong foundation of innovation and sustainability, we are ready to redefine air travel, instill pride, and elevate Enugu’s prominence on the national and global stage.

“Let the countdown begin—Enugu Air is ready for takeoff,” Ozor said.

This is their new cash cow, from ibom Air, to cally air, Enugu Air, we will soon see even Edo Air. In as much as the intentions are good, mismanagement of state resources will crumble the whole thing and render it counter productive. Well after each governor's tenure Efcc must catch someone especially when you are in the opposition.
Let me add that no state governor should buy refurbished aircraft for us oh.

All these fools capping utter bollocks should save us their crocodile tears….or they can shed them for their own state gov’ts and leave Enugu TF alone! Nobody that has been following governance in Enugu state in the past two years will come up with the daft assertion that Peter Mbah launched Enugu Air to serve as a conduit pipe to siphon Enugu states resources into his pocket!

A report on Enugu Air commencing operations, and immediately the thread is overrun by a set of people, who never wish Ndigbo well, all of a sudden expressing ‘concern and love’ for the welfare of NdiEnugu!? So Ibom Air is a failure to una!? A airline started by the Akwa Ibom state gov’t, yet has been run and managed well despite a change in government in 2023!

There’s nothing like ‘refurbished aircraft’! You talk as if the planes were salvaged from the scrapyard and refurbished for use by the Enugu and Akwa-Ibom state gov’ts! Once a plane has all its checks and certifications done, it safe to enter service! These are internationally standardised checks and certifications, so it’s not as if Peter Mbah can sneakily connive to cut corners!

What i see playing out here is attempts at trying to demarket Enugu state and rain on their parade! And it’s all driven by envy and indignation that a ‘nyamuree/y’ibo’ state is exposing poor governance in their own states….governance bereft of ideas and incapable of thinking outside the box!

Highly commendable initiative, as this will lower the price of local airfares. If the aircraft are safe and airworthy, I don't see anything wrong. Ibom Air is a commendable example. If Enugu Air succeeds locally, it will expand regionally and who knows, could be our national carrier in the future.

What i’d like to see is Enugu Air connecting Enugu with a number of international routes! This will help galvanise and give added traction to the states economy and make AIIA, Enugu a international airport in deed and not just in name!

this people do not learn from history. how many airlines in the world with majority stake owned by goverment? why have they failed ? are private airlines flying into enugu? what is the demand? how much energy is generated by the state? broadband penetration in the state? quality of health care and education in the state? how efficient is the public transport system? how efficient is the justice sysyem? etc
