I'm wondering if an 80A BMS is too small for a 160Ah battery bank. Wouldn't that limit its performance? Just asking oga. tetralogyfallot: |

I just finished building a 7S 20P battery bank using 2.5Ah 18650 cells (140 cells total), giving me a 50Ah capacity. I’m using a 50A JBD BMS for it. My plan is to replicate this setup four times to build a ~4.8kWh battery bank, which will be connected to a 3.5KVA 24V hybrid inverter. It’s a gift to a relative, who runs a frozen food shop. I really hope it’ll be worth the effort. I have access to over 20,000 18650 cells extracted from EV cars, scooters etc.

I’m getting a Cworth 12v 100ah lifep04 battery on Friday for 190k to power a few 100w or thereabout load during instances when there’s no light. Is it advisable or is there a ready-made DIY alternative for maybe higher but around the same price. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by saint2ace(m): 2:39pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Elizkid:Go ahead, for the price very few brands can beat it. Just make sure it's for the proposed wattage range. Cheers |

9ijaprince:This is nice, well done. Looking forward to ur further builds. The break up of the separate battery packs will ensure individual batteries are not put under pressure. |

saint2ace:Please Can this charger charge the battery when there’s light Or can the 20a from an inbuilt sachet inverter work?

A silent observer here. I just want to ask a general question. Is there still any motivation to build 18650packs when it seems the price is already been rivaled by new LFP, factory made packs? Tetralogyfallot...how much are your cells going for? To help give context to my question. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Trippledots(m): 7:11pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Elizkid:I have this charger. It served for some years until something burnt inside and the voltage doesn't regulate anymore. But it still works, so I use it while manually monitoring the voltage output for emergency cases. It's the only charger still working out of the few types I got. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Elizkid: 7:19pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Trippledots:What type of battery did you use it to charge? Lifepo4? |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Trippledots(m): 7:27pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Elizkid:No o. Lead acid. I have a feeling you can use it with a pwm controller suitable for LFP to charge sha. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Elizkid: 8:29pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Trippledots:You mean I’ll plug this charger to an ac outlet, connect it to a pwm controller, and then connect the controller output to the battery? I’ve never heard of that before |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by dollarnaira(op): 8:53pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Elizkid:Can work for Lifepo4 and Lead acid. Not for lithium ion Not for lithium ion Not for lithium ion |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Obnoxious2001(m): 11:22pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
dollarnaira:It can work for lithium ion, but you will need a good BMS. Aside from that you can reconstruct it to supply 12.6v for lithium ion charging |

dollarnaira:I’m buying a 100ah 12v lifepo4 battery You mean this charger will charge it without issues? |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Elizkid: 11:37pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Obnoxious2001:How do I do that? My battery is 100ah lifepo4 12v |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by AndroBlaze: 11:40pm On Jul 03, 2025 |
Its better not to even try that charger for lithium ion. Elizkid:It will work fine with the battery you intend to buy, especially since it has a BMS. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by dollarnaira(op): 12:10am On Jul 04, 2025 |
Obnoxious2001:Definitely it can be modified into that like the usual laptop charger buck converter stuff. I am referring to direct usage with any modifications. |

[quote author=AndroBlaze post=135980976] Its better not to even try that charger for lithium ion. It will work fine with the battery you intend to buy, especially since it has a BMS. If the bms fail you, OTILor oh… how are you sure the bms will stop it from charging when it’s full, you have to monitor it to confirm first |

iraybuju:I've used the charger before. Its a smart charger, doesn't go beyond 14.4v. |
| Re: Diy Lithium Ion Like-minds by Trippledots(m): 4:04am On Jul 04, 2025 |
Elizkid:Actually in the reverse order...battery to controller, controller to charger, charger to power source....na one day person de hear something new. |
