SouthEast has always played this kind of politics against the Southwest. They did it against Abiola and gave 3 out of their 4 states (at that time) to Tofa. They did it against Awolowo in 1979 , they will quickly use Obasanjo as example...but even that one they still voted against yoruba interest in 1999 when 2 yorubas were the key flag bearers, they still picked an Obasanjo who wasn't yoruba's choice and couldn't even win his local govt in ogun state...the Igbos still made sure to vote the yoruba candidate that yorubas didn't want...
