So what if you withdrew money from POS? What evidence is there that you in fact paid the cash to the Police afterwards? And for what purpose? ? undecided
The POS girl is directly at the back of their office, she would show the transaction, beside they can't and will never deny it. The number they gave me to call here, I called him and he asked me to call him when I get to the station.

nO need of carry sales agreement and anything relating to the previous owner. ditch all those old documents
That's what I did, but I carry some few because I know how they behave when they sees that your papers are correct they would always find a way to take the car to the station.

You're so thoughtful, I never thought about this as that instant. Truly, I'm not supposed to be the one with the authority to sell, but the car stand. I never really thought of this, I swear. You're a genius, but unfortunately I'm too scared to go to the police to make this report, I wish I'm half the man or have half of the heart to do this. 😢

But boss, is it In anyway possible for me to do an affidavit for loss of agreement paper between the very first owner and the second owner whom sold directly to me? Would such affidavit hold?
You should be more concerned about reporting the errant officers to recover your money and to get them disciplined.

You can still retrieve that money if you have evidence as to the set of police guys that extorted you.... If you can identify them...
I can fully identify the 5 of them, all of them.

The receipt you got from the gal does not reflect any association to the police force, she might as well have been a woman selling akara at the back of the police office for all the law cares.🤔

If they can't deny it then go back and ask them for an official receipt for the money you paid and see what happens. undecided

Then get a dashcam. It's less than the 82,800 you spent. Just between 30-35k depend on the make.

If you had it - it would have automatically recorded them, then you upload the video on Twitter and tag people like VDM and other human right activist. By now the whole social media would have been trending with their ugly faces.

They would be arrested, dismissed and your money returned back to you.

Also, whenever you're stopped by the police, act very bold and bossy. Don't let them spot any kind or form of fear in you. If they do, they'll exploit it until they successfully milk you.

Sorry for your loss.
I will get this cam that you speak of first thing tomorrow morning, is it on Jumia or where can I get it sir?

I have a change of ownership, I did it few minutes after paying for the car, what they're currently demanding for and using to extort me, is the previous change of ownership between the very first owner that used the car before selling to the the second owner "the change of ownership between the first and second owner" they claimed that my car has no past history that every history started directly from me.
Register your own number plate. I guess you are still using the previous owner's number plate

Sad one though.
The best thing you need to do now is to completely register the car with a new plate number.

Anything relating to the old owner should be discarded asap. Let your name fully reflect on the car reg, this will save you a lot of issues from the police.
Yep...very very true.

I do not have a lawyer, but I will try to have one in case of next time. Nevertheless, I got some number on Twitter, Delta State precisely which is where the scenario took place. I called him and he asked me to go to the station and call him.

I took some numbers on Twitter just now, I called one of the number that was there, he asked me to go to the station and call him when I get there, please do you think he would be able to help me recover my money?

Hello sir, I called a delta state CRU unit and he asked me to go to the station and call him when I get there. But I confided in a friend to follow me and he said the police that extorted me would deny me, argue they've never seen or met me or seen my car ever before. He said because I didn't transferred any money into their account but used a POS at the fence of just outside the station to withdraw the cash I used in setting them. Also, they might detain me or the person I called and talk to on the phone would not pick my call anymore when it's time as I do not know him directly, I would have been at the station already, I'm so scared to go. Please what do you suggest, please reply please.

You paid because you have the money, if you didn't have the money. I am sure you will find a way around it and that wouldn't have cost you 80k. Meanwhile, there is nothing like authority to sell. U self think am! Authority to sell document should be directed to the car stand dealership. In essence police suppose full all these car stands to they check authority to sell. You didn't sell, you bought. They didn't ask you authority to buy because you will catch them, so they confused you with authority to sell which was impossible to get. Thieves!!

Go back to the station without your car, meet one of the police and ask for D.C.O office. And lay your complaint, that money go fall out as long as you can recognize them. Just remember the check point then catch you and the time. They will figure th3 patrol team that was there. Good luck!!
Beutiful Suggestions and God Bless you, bro👍.
First, the OP has not identified where this incident took place,e g at so so place, in so so Location and please, name the State as well .
We should be able Condemn Evil being Perpetrated by the Security Forces, where necessary, especially the Nigerian Police because they are behaving as if they are Enemies of the People and logically The Enemies of NIGERIA,which should Not be!
Although, there are some Good Ones in the Police Force, but the Bad Eggs are spoiling the good ones!
God Bless Other Security Apparatus in Nigeria- MAKING NIGERIA GREAT.

I transferred to the girl, before I was done making the transfer the police called the girl in my present if I had transfered the money, as soon as I was done the POS girl called him that I have transferred it successfully, I went back to the police and he handed my car keys to me. The girl POS Is just exactly at the back of the police station, gumming the fence, so they know her very well.

You withdrew 80k and handed it over to the hand of a police man, right? Even if the gal witnessed the transfer, you are to blame for not demanding a receipt immediately before handing the money over. If you go there and the gal refuses to serve as witness for you giving the money, what do you think would happen? undecided

Good afternoon Nairalanders,

I was driving yesterday afternoon, when I was stopped by the police, they inspected my papers and noticed that I bought my car at a car stand "used" so they asked me for a document named "authority to sell" I was surprised because I haven't ever had of that before, even though this Is my 4th car. They then proceeded to ask me for agreement paper between the first owner and the previous owner that sold to me. Which I don't have, but I have every other documents from the immediate owner, and have none from the very first owner, except the motor receipt, that they used to buy the motor from car stand.

They took my car to the station, and demanded 400k, I pleaded with them for almost an hour until they accepted 80,000. They told me they need cash, I withdrew the money and gave them the cash.

When I got out of the station I confided with a friend and narrated everything to him as it happened and asked him for help In other to avoid such a scenario from happening again.

He told me that, the paper that I wrote and signed on the car stand before leaving with the car, on the day I bought the car "aggremenr paper" was what led them asking for the "authority to sell" paper. He told me that nevertheless, they have no business asking me for the agreement paper between the old, and immediate seller that sold to me and the other previous owner.

He then advised me to go and re_do another agreement paper, the ones they normally type with old type writer, and take it to who sold the car to me to sign, so that when next they see me they won't ask me for authority to sell, as my agreement papers won't indicate that I bought the car from a car stand "used" but it would seem like I bought the car directly from a regular user.

I did as he told me but I'm still worried, as they would still stop me to take more money from me in the future because I don't have the agreement paper between the immediate previous owner and the former owner that sold to him. They're always fond of asking for such, all my previous cars I have the aggrement papers of previous owners to current owners that sold to me, please I need advice on how to go about this agreement papers, I have gone to the car stand severely and they gave me the contact of whom they bought the vehicle from before selling to me, I called and he told me that he had traveled out, I need help please, help me.

Would an affidavit of "loss of agreement paper from who sold to me directly and the first user solve this issue? Please help I'm so worried.

Below is the 80,000 I withdrew and used in settling the police yest afternoon, I paid 2800 as charges to the POS girl.
Which station did this happens..

I’d like to know. Kindly respond to this. As fast as you can. Thank you

I didn't hand over the cash to the policeman, I made the transfer and when it was confirmed they gave me my car key, which I presume the girl would give them the money later. Nevertheless, I understand your points now, you're indeed so right, things might get ugly really quick if I should report the issue, I'm scared at same time I really wished to report them for such scenario not to repeat itself again, because I believe when next they sees me they would still demand for the same "Authority to sell" which they used to take money from day before yesterday.

Delta state? No wonder lol……. Every young guy driving a good car na “yahoo” boys to them…… Na profiling full that state.

But you don’t have to panic if you are legit, they don’t have right to ask you for those documents.

Na Vehicle License, Insurance, eCMR (Now suspended), Tint Permit (Extended till August), Roadworthy certificate

Proof of Ownership na jara in case they are suspecting the car to be a stolen vehicle.

Anything outside this…. E no follow

Go on Temu and search for dashcam, you will see different types, and if you are on bucks… get Rayban Meta glasses (It’s expensive) but it will save you a lot from Police Intimidation. As far as you stay Legit with nothing incriminating.

You should try to go back, without the car,to get your receipt and see what happens. Or like some have suggested, take a lawyer along with you. undecided

I have the police extract that you are talking about, I did a new plate number when I got the vehicle so I have all the necessary documents.
Then just accept that you've been scammed. I've faced similar things on lagos-benin expressway... Paid 15k and they told me to go do court affidavit and police extract. Never had any issues with police since on that road.
