Happy Independence Day ... To Me by LordReed(op): 7:38pm On Jul 04, 2025
As the United States celebrates their Independence Day, I join them to celebrate my independence from religion which occurred on this day seven years ago. Looking forward to the next seven.

Happy Independence to me!

What? You mean you be small pikin like this? Only seven years old as an atheist? Wonders shall never cease. I could have sworn you must have been at least two decades in this grisly business.

But wait. It is rare that one remembers the specific date of his "conversion" to atheism. It tends to be a gradual thing. So what specifically happened that made you remember July 4th as critical in this regard.

I had doubts that I want to deal with decisively. I wasn't expecting to end up an atheist to be honest. I was expecting truth to win out but I didn't know truth had a different colour from what I was used to.

Very very funny.

Op says he does not believe in God and is free from religion yet here he is praising and worshipping his god called U.S and marking the day of his god hahahahahaha grin

Actually it was a good day. I wasn't in trouble or something, I just wanted to not be doubting so frequently.

I think I was prepared for whatever came out of it. Plus I was determined to follow through with the outcome, it just so happened that the outcome was atheism. I think in practice believers and atheists are not much different is just that believers can be persuaded into really terrible ideas more easily than atheists can.

This, I concur with; I have always been of the notion that most who refer to themselves as atheists are merely religious individuals at the end of the religious spectrum, where they claim subscription to no deity. undecided

This is like saying the TV being off is also a cable channel.

This does not compare to what I stated, though. There is a spectrum as far as belief in the existence of a deity across religious people. The absence of a belief does not negate religiosity. A TV is still a TV whether it is off or on. undecided

How is no religion a religion?

It's still a TV so I guess you sit down and stare at a blank TV.

The absence of a belief is not same as the absence of religion. undecided

2. You could too. undecided

Lemme guess you watched Jordan Peterson and are following his nonsense definition of worship. I sincerely hope you prove me wrong on this.

Atheism is a belief system -- a belief grounded on the idea that there is no god -- not an absence of religion itself. undecided

2. There are days I spend with the TV in and me not paying attention to the programming at all. And there are other days I spend not even bothering to turn it on at all. Irrespective of the kind of day I may be having, the TV remains a TV. undecided

LoLz. I mean this is the exact thing I am calling out and you just repeated it. Atheism which is a lack of belief is also a belief? Na wa o.

Yeah but nobody watches a TV while is off is the point. And you made it for me with the first part of your response.

Atheism isn't a lack of belief. Rather, it is a belief that there is no god— a belief in the idea that there is no god. undecided

2. Not everyone watches TV while it is on, either.

3. Your first statement was regarding cable channels. And my response was that it doesn't matter whether or not there is a cable channel on or not. It is a TV whether there is white noise on, tuned to a particular cable TV, no one is watching or not, or even turned off. A TV is a TV. undecided

Atheism is the lack of belief in any gods. Therefore it is not a belief.

Maybe stoned people do that. Are you stoned?

It doesn't matter when the TV is off it not displaying a channel therefore you cannot claim to be watching a cable TV station when the TV is off.

Worship is devotion. God made every human with a spirit and that spirit worships just like the brain thinks. Humans always look for something or someone to worship. Who or what you devote your life to is your object of worship. To some like me, it's God. To others, it can be money, self, fame, a goal, another man, education, science, a subject, a job, or some other god.

This is an absurd take just like I suspected. Why is that when religious people want to prove a point they mangle up words and their meanings just to fit whatever bunkum they want to push. Why do you folks just love being disingenuous for your religious beliefs? Do you in your daily living ever consider your devotion to your family, job, hobbies, etc worship?

i see you feel pain in this truth from scriptures. Scriptures command to have no other god before God, we all have gods. Some of us are even gods. i tell you Bible my dear.
