Still have a long way to go though We need 34000 mw to give those currently on the grid 24 hours of electricity a day We need 89000 MW to give everyone in Nigeria right now 24 hours of electricity a day We need 10-14 trillion naira of investments in electricity to achieve the above, and the investments is an annual thing , for 10 years We need to make sure that no one steals power at all We need to remove subsidies on power. I hate to say this , but we need to pay 250 naira or more per unit of electricity, which will attract the needed investment to make the sector grow. People don't like doing things for a loss. We got to pay for 24 hour a day power. I knows we poor, but power is expensive. And wanting government to give you power without removing subsidies is asking for government to take loans of 15 trillion naira annually for power. Which we will still pay back anyway in the form of high power bills. Nothing comes cheap |

It got to a point I started getting apprehensive whether they have switched us to band A without notice, the light has been steady averaging over 20 hrs per day, sometimes 24hrs in my area |

ironheart:I doubt. The fact is, even then power still becomes problematic. I used to live in a band c area. Even when the rain was good, light was still bad. We are not generating enough |

Most days, I get over 22 hours of electricity. There are days when it only goes off for about 5 mins during the entire day. And I am not even in Band A. I don't even think about electricity anymore. I know it is not the same across the country. |

I thought I was the only one who noticed this. For the past 2 months or so, electricity has improved tremendously in my area. I visited my cousins frequently in Shomolu arra of Lagos, and the same is the story. But how surprising it is that nobody seems to notice this, or could it be deliberate? |

CryptoPornster:I can vouch for Band A — they were on almost every day, pretty much six uninterrupted days in the week, assuming they rested on the seventh. |

Weird how we are currently witnessing the worst spate of electricity decline this period and this news is making the airwaves. It used to be that during the rains, electricity improves; these rains have led to a decrease instead. |

10% growth is good on paper, but let’s not get carried away — we’re still averaging just 4,770MW for over 220 million people. That’s not even up to what some cities generate. At this pace, it’ll take nearly 5 years to hit 28,000MW (which we already need today). Progress? Yes. But for real impact, generation must grow faster, transmission must be fixed, and politics must stay out of power. |

Very funny country. Sometimes i wonder why electricity is not stable in Nigeria. Is it an impossible rocket science that cannot be achieved, or it is a deliberate act. If other countries especially African countries can do it, why can't Nigeria? |

nairalanda1:Can someone remind me the budget for Lagos Calabar coastal road again. $11B (N15T)? Can someone define misplaced priority for me? So the money that will be spent to fix the power problem cannot be recovered through properly enforced electricity billings? Infact the money Nigerians already pay annually for electricity bills, is it not close to that amount you stated? |
