CNN — Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi told the European Union’s top diplomat that Beijing can’t accept Russia losing its war against Ukraine as this could allow the United States to turn its full attention to China, an official briefed on the talks said, contradicting Beijing’s public position of neutrality in the conflict.

The admission came during what the official said was a four-hour meeting with EU foreign affairs chief Kaja Kallas on Wednesday in Brussels that “featured tough but respectful exchanges, covering a broad range of issues from cyber security, rare earths to trade imbalances, Taiwan and Middle East.”

The official said Wang’s private remarks suggested Beijing might prefer a protracted war in Ukraine that keeps the United States from focusing on its rivalry with China. They echo concerns of critics of China’s policy that Beijing has geopolitically much more at stake in the Ukrainian conflict than its admitted position of neutrality.

On Friday, at a regular Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs briefing, spokeswoman Mao Ning was asked about the exchange, which was first reported in the South China Morning Post, and re-affirmed Beijing’s long-standing position on the three-year war.

“China is not a party to the Ukraine issue,” Mao said. “China’s position on the Ukraine crisis is objective and consistent, that is, negotiation, ceasefire and peace. A prolonged Ukraine crisis serves no one’s interests.”

Chinese are known to be coward and very unstable set of people.

They actually don't want Russia to loose the war against Ukraine but they allowed Iran to loose the war against Israel.

Very good. Chinese people are very intelligent and always thinking long term. Russia is doing China a favor by getting NATO & US bogged down in a losing war in Ukraine.
By the time the conflict might be over in Europe, China might have peacefully unified or annexed Taiwan.

China is also returning the favor to Russia by trading with Russia, Asia alone has the largest market so literally Moscow fully replaced the EU/European/American market. That's why Western illegal economic sanctions on Russia is not working.
Meanwhile, the EU have turned to satellite states, allowing unelected officials to be making foreign policy decisions for them.
You say you don't want to buy Russian gas, you blew Nord stream. Yet you're buying the same Russian gas via middlemen countries like India, China and Turkey .....

This is the same reason China backed Iran during the Iran-US War that US fought through the US proxy of Israel.

It is in the strategic interest of China to defend and protect Iran so that it can run oil pipelines from Iraq through Iran and Pakistan to link China instead of using ships to move the crude oil.


Russia is fighting US through an indirect assault on Ukraine human resource source of population to Israel and to US.

They are all fighting proxy wars they all learned from the US.

Calm down. Ask anyone in Russia, the sanctions are working. And Russia is very lucky Trump is not willing to bring down the hammer.

Russia is not the oligarch. The oligarchy may not be feeling the heat of sanctions very much, but ask the common man.

Yall sounding like a bunch of clowns when you make Russia and China invincible, while at the same time trying to make USA and Europe sound weak.

As for this war, Putin never expereddit to be this tough. The Russian economy is going through a dangerous time, and will take many years of careful, focused effort to bring it back to pre-Ukraine wars. Putin is winning the battle yes, but man is he losing the war.

China is just busy protecting her interests, not a good ally. Everybody get mouth now because Trump is stupidly courting Putin.
