Got put on to The Ramayana by a Twitter mutual. Still never got around to reading it yet. Same old story.

Anyways, Bollywood thought kindly to make a massive budget movie about it. Folks, this thing is looking like the biggest thing to come out of Bollywood this decade. I'm definitely sat.

Oh, and I found Hans Zimmer. Turns out the Indians have him. Jokes aside, a Hans Zimmer x A. R. Rahman collabo is not something I ever imagined but I now absolutely can't wait to hear what these 2 G.O.A.T.s have cooked

The Old Guard 2 (2025) ...... 4/10

Same problems as the first movie - good idea, terrible execution...
The writing is ambitious as always but the writers are not competent enough to tell that story...
It's almost like the writers are trying to write a story bigger than their abilities...

At a point, I thought I was 20 minutes into this movie only to see I was 1 hour into it.
And that was because nothing had happened so far...
The character writing felt like they were just at the beginning of developing when the movie was already reaching it's conclusion...

In all, this movie was a waste of time...

There was so much potential to build up the relationship between the characters but everything from the amateur script, to terrible dialogue, to mediocre acting rendered it useless...

When you go from a series with brilliant acting with Squid Game (except VIPS) to a movie with mediocre acting such as this, the difference is so obvious

The only franchise in Hollywood that is completely bulletproof.

It's insane how they've managed to stay relevant despite pushing out average movies.

Sorry for the ban @Déathparade

I've actively tuned out of Bollywood for years as their stories captivates me no more. ZeeWorld had a large hand in making me averse to that industry.

Of course I know they have more serious fare and all that....I'm not just tuned no more nor have the motivation to even look for them.

When I want variety and Asian fare, I easily go to Korea or Japan. As I feel they have superior storytelling compared to Indians presently.

The only time I've actively searched for something from an Indian filmmaker for the past 7yrs is probably last year's Best International Film cotender All We Imagine As Light. I'm yet to catch it tho my interest has cooled off.

As per Baahubali.... It's very much an Indian film or Bollywood my bro.

India has different languages or sub-genre uniqueness across the industry. Baahubali is a Telugu and Tamil language movie. Not all Bollywood fare means it's Hindi.

Just like in Nigeria we colloquially differentiate Nollywood as Kannywood (for Hausa based), Asaba wood and Lagos based etc. They're all still Nollywood regardless.

It' won't hit $1B but $800m in a highly competitive month is very impressive

I did a research on this some time ago and the sound mixing on modern films is deliberate...

Back then when filmmaking was in the earlier stages, cinemas were straight forward, no surround sound or anything, so actors had to actually shout thier lines, and that meant clearer dialogues amidst other ambient sounds.

Fast Forward to this era when digital filmmaking has taken over, Hollywood switched to the so called "Immersive experience", where Cinemas, are actually capable of surround sound with capable speakers, and sound design got better, so it meant actors no longer needed to shout their lines, but the sound designer would want you to hear every and feel every sound, the ambient sound, sound of the environment, score etc from the movie, so the highs, are very highs, like an action sequence, and the lows are very low, like the dialogues from the actors, since they didn't need to shout thier lines anymore, as their dialogue get lost in the surrounding sound, people watching movies at the comfort of their homes, even have it worst, as most people see movies from thier Tvs, Laptops or phones, that don't have capable speaker set ups, for this immersive sound experience that Hollywood crave so much. Of course filmmakers could easily fix this in post, but in fairness most Hollywood films, especially blockbusters, are mixed for theaters and not for home.

Chief culprit is Christopher Nolan, His sound design for his flicks might be the most annoying in the industry, Brilliant filmmaker, but the sound! 😩. In the TDKR, Tom Hardy had to deepen his voice and alter it from his Natural speaking voice, so his dialogues weren't clear enough, because of the surrounding ambient sounds, CN saw it in post, and decided not to alter it, as it felt more "Natural" 😩.

Straight to VOD movies which are actually mixed for home and should sound better, have another peculiar problem, Streaming platforms like Netflix, actually compress movie quality, before posting on their platform, so as to save bandwidth, if not, Netflix will be crashing now and then, the sheer number of people simultaneously streaming 4K contents and High Fidelity sounds.

This "problem" isn't going away, and so the best solution is "Subtitles", no matter how badly mixed a sound design is, you could always hear the dialogues, and follow the story., second option, and this is for true audiophiles with bag, is to get better speakers, sound bars, etc that have surround sound capabilities, so you can listen to the sound just as the filmmaker intended and still hear the dialogues.

For Cinemas, there isn't much you can do. Some very advanced cinema offers subtitles, via devices personally to people who requests for them, as open subtitles might ruin the cinema experience for some people, even though like 60% of the time, they can't hear the dialogues 😭. But then again, The last Nollywood flick, i saw at the cinema, had embedded subtitles, and the experience was just fine...i always thought subtitles at the cinema should catch on...

Just watched this trailer after anticipating what Ramayana might bring.
It's an adaptation of the same story but this Adipurush is a cinematic travesty. What the honest fvvk is that CGI and VFX??
All involved in that film needs to be flogged.

And that film is amongst top 5 most expensive Bollywood films. 😳😳

What I've been saying for the past 6 months but everyone kept saying it always hit $1bn. 🙄🙄

I already knew since last year and the trailer reveals that this was not going to hit that mark when the last movie barely hit a $1bn with literally no competition for two months. This one has mega competition throughout and weaker stars so it's not hitting franchise best numbers.

I just can't wait for the movie to run it's theatrical course so I can say "I told you so". grin grin

As for SUPERMAN, low ball predictions, it does around $750mn with lukewarm reviews. With global critical acclaim— that's $850mn. With superb unanimous best in class word of mouth —1bn+.

F4 looks like a $650mn+ movie to me. If it does well.

There is a reason this movie, Adipurush, flopped hard at the box office. And its not just the vfx that is bad. The dialogues were a literal insult to the entire Indian public. Probably the most hated movie of recent years in India. The new Ramayana movie is going to be MUCH better, based on what we know of it so far.

Yeah, I know the sound mixing these days is a deliberate attempt and it was intended to be watched in the cinema.
It just sounds weird and particularly annoying for some movies.

The last time I went to the theatre despite the action sequences so loud, I actually enjoyed my time and could hear the dialogue perfectly. Just that the explosions was particularly really loud.

I won't ever forget the chills that I got with that Masterclass I experienced on The Batman. Man, that surround sound is GOATED.

These reasons are why I don't have much problems no more with the complaints of the SUPERMAN colour grading. One day I realised what I've always known as a video editor. Color spectrum and grading are quite different for different devices.
It might look awesome in a platform it's particularly graded for and look off in another screen.
Evident in how I grade, and the colours feel supreme on my laptop. I put it on my phone it's something entirely different. I had to go back and color correct the reds in an edit sometime ago. The reds was okay in my laptop but on phone it looked like red palm oil was dropped on that particular pic. 😢😥

So, yeah, I understand.

Nah, this new Ramayana film has the vibes it might be good. Even that slight teaser alone was GOATED. The sound score and VFX I saw, I was impressed.
Based on what I've read from the producer I have some level of optimism it would be good.

Adipurush was a travesty. I swear. Even from the trailer I could see the dialogue was wack.
