I see this has been answered, Don't worry, they will tell you to resubmit, happened to my wife, Visa was stamped, COPR given, we landed and we were asked to resubmit another one while in Canada. We did take one inside Canada and mailed it with Canada post, PR card was issued.. shila8: |

Hi all. I received ITA through the recent CEC draw. However, I planned on using NYSC for my work experience and I just learned that the school I served in has shut down. I also do not have the contact of the school owner. Is it possible to claim work experience without a work experience letter from the school? Thank you. |

Tayo112:Hello Tayo112, Congratulations on your ITA. Please your ITA is a gold mine at this point. I would advise you to ignore any discouragement and do all you can to make an effort to submit your PR application as truthfully as possible. This is from: "https://immigrationnewscanada.ca/job-experience-letter-for-canada-know-full-details-to-include/#:~:text=Alternatives%20to%20the%20employment%20reference,get%20a%20job%20reference%20letter". It suggests possible alternatives to consider when you cannot get a letter from your employer. And for NYSC, many of these are easy to get. Example, your monthly allowance payments into your account, your NYSC posting letter, there must be someone who you served with that you remember who will be willing to write a letter for you, add pictures showing or documents confirming you both served together, copies of your NYSC IDs if you have any, etc. Include all proof you can get that would prove your case... Engage the services of a CIC registered / regulated immigration agent or an immigration lawyer so you are sure they would not advise you to do anything illegal that will break Canadian immigration law to get you banned. Bottom line, I would strongly encourage you to submit your application, if the NYSC letter from employer is the only hiccup. I am guessing you have other more recent work experience that would be more relevant. I wish you the best and congratulations again on your ITA.

Tomitomeroo:Hello Tomitomeroo, I would advise you fill your form as truthfully as possible, even if you do not "intend to claim" or do not need Siblings points. When asked if you have a relative that is a Canadian PR or Citizen in the course of completing your application form, the truthful answer is "YES". They already have that information and would wonder why you ommitted the truth. If you choose to answer NO to that question, as you do not need siblings points, you may get away with it; and later asked, you can explain that you answered NO since you did not intend to claim siblings points. When filling in your immediate family members, you would not be asked if your sibling is a Canadian PR. At that point, they only ask for name, birth date, nationality and address (if I remember correctly). Your siblings Nationality would still be their country of birth (example: Nigeria) until they become Canadian citizens. I really do not see how a Canadian PR sibling not living in Canada would affect you adversely. Deciding on how to package your application is a personal choice. Just be sure you stay as truthful as possible and have a logical explanation for any choice if later asked to provide additional information. |

Judasiscarriot:Hello, I would advise you do all you can to allow your wife to focus on passing her "relevant" exams and your family will be happy you did in the long term. Note: depending on her profile, she would need to find out what exams are "relevant" for her pathway to practice in Canada, as the requirements vary in different provinces depending on whether she completed Family Medicine Residency in Nigeria. This pathway is smoother, with fewer exams required. If she did not do ANY residency training in Nigeria or any other country (as there are Specialist pathways for other specialties other than Family Medicine), that would mean she would have to apply for residency in Canada as the only other pathway to practice in Canada. The exams required for this pathway are more than the former, and it is competitive, but more Nigerian doctors match these days than ever before; so she should be encouraged and ignore any nay sayers in her circle. As a last resort, there is the option of writing the UK exams and exploring going to the UK (where it is easier to get Family Medicine Residency / GP Training completed in 3 years and then return to Canada with no requirement to write Canadian exams. Advise her to ignore anyone who tells her to do any course for an alternative career. If she can study well while working, there are jobs she can do that do not require any course (except CPR certification). Not prestigious jobs, but here in Canada, there is dignity of labor so no one truly cares what you do. The focus should be on making all necessary moves to get back to practice. Hence my earlier advise that you support her in every way you can, even if it means being the only one working for a short season while she clears her exams, which is possible in 3 to 12 months with laser focus on the prize. She can actually even write the first exam (MCCQE 1) from Nigeria if it is relevant for her pathway to practice. Once she lands or even before then, she should identify the Nigerian Medical Community (there are several groups) but some groups would require her previous classmates / colleagues who know her to refer her / vouch for her. There are also some Organizations that are quite helpful and supportive (like AIMGA, BREDIN, etc. if landing in Alberta and several in Ontario) in providing relevant information and organizing study sessions for some exams. If she focuses and clears all her relevant exams, with God's favor, there is hope. It is never 100% certain that one will match into a residency program on the first try, but it is best to clear all the relevant exams, and then leave the rest to God, as although match rates have significantly improved for IMGs, it is never 100%. I wish you all a smooth journey in Canada. |

Tomitomeroo:Yeah, I believe your PR or citizen sibling needs to be living in Canada to claim points. You could indicate NO (my personal preference) or YES (others disagree) to that question but explain in an LOE that you are NOT claiming sibling points and be sure your CRS LESS/MINUS the 15 points is still higher that the CEC draw CRS that gave you ITA. Hello guys, Please what are the chances of a provincial nomination or ITA with a crs scrore of 475. Age = 26, IELTS= (lrws 9,7.5,7,7.5), single, with a masters degree and three years of work experience, NOC = 21300 Civil engineering. If I max out IELTS I will have only 6 points additional (i.e crs of 481). Not sure there is much I can do further from here |
| Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by amnotapervert(m): 5:17pm On Jul 04, 2025 |
Wisdommyth:Before 2020, particularly between 2018 and 2019, a CRS score of 481 would have been strong enough to get you into Canada from outside the country. But things have really changed. 1. You will likely need a PNP nomination to boost your CRS score. Look for a province where you meet the requirements for recent PNP draws Civil engineerin is most likely needed just look for who needs it. Things are getting tighter so act quick I cant even keep up with the many PNP rules changes in the last 6 months its crazy. 2. Hope for a STEM-targeted Express Entry draw . In the history of Express Entry since 2015, this has only happened three times, with the most recent one on April 11, 2024. It’s unclear if or when they’ll do it again. 3. Learn French — I know this can be challenging, but it remains a strong option to significantly increase your score and pssibility of called for a French targeted Express Entry draw Most importantly, keep your Express Entry profile active. With a score of 481, the system could shift, and you might get an invitation when you least expect it.

Mysolkenny2025:IMO She may qualify under NOC 42201 if her actual job duties match the NOC description — even her volunteer work can not count even if it’s well-documented. ( that's where most people coming from Nigeria might have small issue from ) Her B.Sc. should be assessed with an ECA for immigration points. But the Master Diploma from Skill Development Council Canada likely won’t be recognized by IRCC. Getting an ECA is the next best step but to be honest that would not count IMO oooooooo |

So, I landed in Ottawa, Ontario on 1st July and I didn't bring a travel adapter (120v to 220v converter), it skipped my mind that I should have bought it before leaving Nigeria where it is cheaper. Make sure you buy a travel adapter, the electric socket in Canada is different from that of Nigeria. A big thanks to GraciousWords and all the other helpful contributors to the thread when I was learning about Express Entry, I am forever grateful. Life is beautiful here! ![]()

Changing landscape..... Federal government and the Provinces are quarreling....kind of - result is a few PNP draws with less than 1,000 being called at each draw. Canada is a very compassionate country... honestly..... so they are trying to accommodate CECs as much as possible - result is a few more CEC draws compared to General. CBDs draws have been few and far between. The largest consistent draws over the last 2 years, with the lowest CRS score have been the French draws. My advice remains - bite the bullet & learn French (additional CRS points wise and money wise) - not easy at all but it's the most rationale choice if you look at the options coldly. With French you'll still be ahead in 2 years time than someone who went to Canada as a student and completed a 1 or 2 yr degree, has 1 year Canadian work experience (CRS grid facts) and you'll spend far far far FAR less money - student POF (excluding tuition & travel fees) is no joke. There's always the chance of a miracle but prepare like there's none on the horizon. Stay hopeful, pray that the odds will favour you more often than not, but please do the needful. #Learn French #YouGotThis #YouCanDoIt Life is indeed beautiful here, sometimes stressful if you have young children and very expensive! PS: I'm not a French tutor, but there are a few options for tutors and language schools that others have used over the years on the TEF thread...link here: https://www.nairaland.com/4672912/all-tef-candidates-canada-immigration#70227147 |

GraciousWords:Once again, you are absolutely correct. Thanks for the consistent encouragement. I have started my French journey and will do all it takes to see it through. My biggest motivation is not even the Express Entry, but the fact that learning and becoming proficient enough in French will open even more doors of opportunities in my career pursuit. Thank YOU! |

aestake:Sad but true—Nigeria is far behind, and at the pace we’re going, many of us may not see a better Nigeria in our lifetime. Do you know what it means to be the 3rd poorest country in the world? Do you know how far behind we are on the global stage? Do you know that Nigeria isn't even at the table when policies affecting Africa are being discussed? We’ve become a joke. The damage the APC government has done will take at least 30 years to correct—and let’s be honest, most of us here are already in our late 30s or 40s. Every country has its problems—Canada has plenty—but I don’t believe you should limit yourself by thinking Nigeria will magically get better. Give yourself and your family options. When leadership in Nigeria changes for the better, I’ll be the first to return and run my family business full time. But for now, I have the opportunity to play on the global stage—and I’m taking it I beg you all to do the same. Remember, most Nigerian politicians—and their families—don’t even use the Nigerian passport as their primary passport. You’re simply trying to create options for yourself and your family. Canada isn’t perfect, but at least I have options from both worlds—Nigeria and Canada |
