It used to be but not anymore.

To be honest

The Polystyrene panels, the base materials is expensive now

That's how it looks like naked 3cm thickness and 300cm in length and 120cm in width

Also in suspending it mid air like pop

The Polystyrene as seen in the picture is the base material

Using pop cement and specialize Screeding paint it will have pop like outlook

The main reason I like Polystyrene is that it is water-resistant and durable unlike Plaster of Paris (POP) which dissolves in water and is fragile.

Yes in naked form


But once we use pop cement to suspend it from the inside and pop cement again and Screeding paint to screed it from the outside, it's then fire-resistant like the regular pop ceiling

The only disadvantage and demerits for user is the less physical strength of Polystyrene under intense external force like force entry by burglar compare to how pop will not easily break in .

On durability, it is non biodegradable due its synthetic properties, so it's more durable compare to regular pop ceiling

Although pop ceiling is quite durable too, but if it get exposed to moisture it will disintegrate fast which is not so with polystyrene because of its moisture resistant properties.
